X-Men: Margaret Qualley Responds to Rogue Fancast Hopes

Margaret Qualley likely won’t be appearing in the MCU anytime soon.

In the near future, Qualley will appear as Sue in “The Substance” (2024) and then in “Honey Don’t!”, a film directed by Ethan Cohen that hits U.S. theaters next month. Her past roles include appearances in films like “The Nice Guys” (2016), “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019), “Sanctuary” (2022), and “Drive-Away Dolls” (2024). On television, she has starred in shows such as “The Leftovers”, “Fosse/Verdon”, and “Maid”.

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I can’t help but notice the buzz surrounding Katheryn Winnick whenever discussions about who could play Rogue, the beloved X-Men character, arise. This iconic role was brought to life by Chris Claremont and Michael Golden.

What did Margaret Qualley say about playing the X-Men’s Rogue?

When Collider inquired about joining a big franchise such as the MCU, Qualley expressed that she isn’t keen on it for now.

As a film enthusiast, I mused aloud, “I’m hesitant about diving into a series. It appears to be a considerable investment, and truth be told, I’m feeling a bit apprehensive, even with a chuckle.

Besides her appearance in “Honey Don’t!”, Qualley can also be seen in “Happy Gilmore 2”, set to release on Netflix this coming Friday. She graced the screen in Richard Linklater’s film “Blue Moon” at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in February, and will share the limelight with Jacob Elordi in Ridley Scott’s production “The Dog Stars”, due for release in 2026.

Regarding Rogue, no casting for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been confirmed yet. A Marvel Studios X-Men movie is being developed by director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts), but there’s no word on who might or might not appear in it. This film isn’t due to be released until after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with the latter set for a theater release in December 2026.

In the animated X-Men ’97 series, Lenore Zann provides the voice for Rogue, a role that continues into at least two more upcoming seasons.
