Years After Drake And Josh, Drake Bell Opens Up About What His Relationship With Josh Peck Was Really Like

Back in the early 2000s, if Nickelodeon was your TV guide, then chances are you’re no stranger to the buddy comedy, “Drake and Josh.” For kids of that generation like me, it was an integral part of our television diet. Over the years, some cast members have shared their experiences on this cherished sitcom, and just recently, Drake Bell, one of the leads, opened up about his real-life bond with co-star Josh Peck. Bell shed light on their friendship off-screen.

38-year-old musician Drake Bell recently featured on Mayim Bialik’s podcast titled “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown”. In this conversation, available on YouTube, Bell candidly discussed his personal life and professional journey, including the hardships he faced as a child actor (previously disclosed in the docuseries “Quiet on Set” ). Towards the end of their chat, Bialik delved into Bell’s friendship with Josh Peck, to which Bell expressed heartfelt sentiments.

Josh and I, having started our journey so early, found ourselves progressing through our teenage years side by side. There were moments when we couldn’t seem to be apart, as if fate had bound us together. After work, one of us would ask the other, ‘What are your plans?’ ‘I’m heading home to play PlayStation.’ ‘Sounds good to me, I’ll join you there.’ It was as if those 12 hours at work weren’t enough; we continued our bonding experience by playing games and ordering pizza at home.

The former star of the Amanda Show, it appears, discusses a warm camaraderie that can develop between office coworkers. On the program, Bell and Peck portrayed stepbrothers with contrasting characters, which resulted in an unusual partnership reminiscent of the Odd Couple. If there was any similarity between their characters, it was their shared knack for finding themselves in bizarre circumstances. It seems that Peck and Bell generally got along well, although Bell humorously added another remark about their teenage years as well.

At other instances, I found myself saying something along the lines of, “I’ll speak with Josh solely when it’s written in the script. Understood? If not, let him stay far from me.” I assume he had similar feelings as well.

It’s no secret that as times change, so do people, and this includes the dynamics between two long-time Nickelodeon stars like Josh Peck and Drake Bell. Back in 2017, there was a lot of talk about their falling out, which they’ve referred to as a “beef.” However, more recently, they seem to have reconnected, albeit under unfortunate circumstances. In fact, not long ago, both Peck shared his thoughts on a podcast called QoS, and Bell disclosed around the same time that they had started speaking again.

Given the enduring popularity of the show, it’s understandable that fans are still wondering if it might come back in some shape or form. Drake Bell isn’t against a reboot, but he’d prefer to be involved only if there was a compelling concept involved. Frankly, I must admit, it would be intriguing to watch the two main characters on screen again. If such a reunion were to take place, I’d be curious to see how their real-life bond compares with the highs and lows of their teenage years depicted in the show.
