Spoilers ahead for the Season 3 finale of Yellowjackets.
In a brief span of only a few seasons, “Yellowjackets” has soared in popularity to become one of television’s most buzzworthy series. The gripping Showtime dramedy (available for streaming with a premium Paramount+ subscription) recently wrapped up Season 3, and the body count rose significantly during the last episodes. As the actors reflect on these tragic events, the final two episodes unveiled the long-awaited truth about Pit Girl’s true identity.
Some viewers are still trying to figure out how to tune in for Yellowjackets Season 3, but I, as a die-hard fan, can hardly wait for each fresh episode. This season has been filled with tragic deaths, such as the demise of Adult Lottie and Adult Van. The latter character was portrayed by Lauren Ambrose, and during behind-the-scenes footage for YouTube, Tawny Cypress (who plays Taissa) became quite emotional about her character’s untimely end. In her own words:
This season, I’m incredibly proud to have been part of crafting such a captivating tale about the complexities and nuances of traffic. It’s a unique love story in its own right, and I can’t help but feel a sense of pride over it. I truly believe that it’s a beautiful narrative we get to share with our audience.
As much as I relish the opportunity to be a part of such a compelling story, saying goodbye to the person who has been my close collaborator is never easy. It’s bittersweet, but the memories and experiences shared during this journey will stay with me forever.
Indeed, isn’t it understandable? The emotional reunification of Van and Taissa in Season 2 was heartwarming, and Lauren Ambrose was promoted to a series regular for the following season. Together with Cypress, they managed to portray a beautiful on-screen romance, which often fosters a strong bond among actors.
Watch “Yellowjackets” exclusively on a Paramount Plus subscription that includes Showtime. It’s available for $12.99 per month or a yearly subscription of $119.99.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but reflect on the poignant demise of Van, a character whose tale unfolded intriguingly throughout Season 3. While her death officially occurred in the penultimate episode, it wasn’t until the climactic finale that the confirmation came, leaving us all in a state of melancholy. In an attempt to rescue her friends from the deadly grip of smoke inhalation, she valiantly fought, but when faced with the grim task of sacrificing Melissa to The Wilderness, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Tragically, Hillary Swank’s captivating portrayal of Van ended abruptly as she was fatally stabbed in the chest by none other than her character. However, in a moment of eerie prescience during a shared vision with young Van, there seemed to be a subtle hint that her story might not have reached its final chapter. Alas, don’t hold your breath for a miraculous resurrection; Taissa performed the solemn rite of burying her remains and consuming her heart in the finale.

Indeed, the last episode brought about the demise of another significant character: Alexa Barajas portrayed Mari in Yellowjackets. The series’ third season finale finally revealed that she was Pit Girl, tying up a loose end from the pilot episode’s opening scene. This revelation was a thrilling payoff for long-term fans of the show, but it also signaled Barajas’ departure from the cast. In the same interview, Samantha Hanratty, who plays Teen Misty, commented on this development.
She’s brought so much to the show. It’s hard losing you cast mates.
However, there’s also some good to come out of it. In fact, Mari was the star in one of the most memorable scenes from Yellowjackets, and she even got to clarify a mystery that has been intriguing viewers since the very first episode. This is how Courtney Eaton, the actress who plays Teen Lottie, feels about it.
I’m thrilled since she receives an empowering conclusion, one that I believe fans and amateur sleuths alike will find intriguing. Some of them may have already unraveled parts of it online.
For quite some time now, there’s been a heated discussion online about a character named Pit Girl. Over the years, Mari has emerged as one of the top picks due to her contentious relationship with Shauna and her dark hair. It turns out that those who believed she would become the tragic Yellowjacket were indeed correct.
From here on, it gets tough: the anticipation for Season 4. The number of seasons remains uncertain, but the pattern in Season 3 of eliminating characters and the uncertainty surrounding the teen timeline might suggest that Season 4 could be the finale. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed for further updates from Showtime.
