Yellowstone Creator’s New Action Movie F.A.S.T. Finally Moves Forward With 1923 Star

A long-awaited action film by Taylor Sheridan, titled “F.A.S.T.”, is now progressing after years of setbacks, with a star from “1923” already on board. Notably, Sheridan is renowned for creating the Paramount universe of shows centered around “Yellowstone”, which includes “1883” and “1923”. These series have been ratings giants for the network, providing Sheridan with the clout to produce other successful shows such as “Mayor of Kingstown”, “Tulsa King”, and “Lioness”.

As a fervent enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned from THR that Sheridan is making a comeback to the big screen! The project, titled F.A.S.T., has found its home at Warner Bros. and seems to be moving swiftly, as it’s already scheduled for a theatrical release on April 23, 2027. Brandon Sklenar, known for his role as Spencer Dutton in 1923, has been selected for the lead part, while Ben Richardson, a regular director on 1923, is set to make his feature film debut with this project, directing F.A.S.T. Here’s a glimpse of what the movie is about:

From the perspective of a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’d put it this way: In my eyes, F.A.S.T. revolves around a hard-knuckled ex-special forces soldier, struggling to find his footing upon his return home from active duty. Unexpectedly, the DEA comes knocking on his door with an offer he can’t refuse: leading a covert strike force to take down powerful drug dealers who are shielded by the CIA in our very own town.

In the mid-2010s, Sheridan penned the script for F.A.S.T., initially planned to be directed by him with Chris Pratt in the lead role. The movie had been under development at Warners for several years, but its projected budget of $60-$70 million made it a challenging fit between their theatrical and streaming objectives for what was then HBO Max. Following a period at Amazon, the rights expired, and now it’s back in the hands of Warner Bros.

The THR article mentions that FAST’s budget remains undetermined, however, it’s expected to be under $65 million. Moreover, Sheridan is not only the scriptwriter but also in negotiations for production with Jenny Wood of Bosque Ranch Productions. Additionally, David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford from Heyday Films are involved in production as well. Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy from Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group have issued a statement about FAST, which is provided below:

It’s truly remarkable and unique that Taylor Sheridan’s collection of works shines with unmatched brilliance and consistent quality. We feel privileged to be collaborating with him on this film. With Ben Richardson, a highly skilled director, guiding us behind the camera, and the exceptional producing abilities of Heyday Films and Bosque Ranch, we are elated to have such an extraordinary creative force bringing F.A.S.T. to life on the silver screen.

What This Means For Taylor Sheridan

The Yellowstone Creator’s Movie History Explained

Despite wrapping up “Yellowstone” and concluding season 2 of its prequel, “1923,” recently, Sheridan’s schedule in TV land remains packed. Multiple spinoffs are on the horizon, such as “The Madison,” a prequel to 1944, and a series centered around Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). Interestingly, F.A.S.T. signifies a comeback for Sheridan to an earlier phase of his career, which was characterized by his involvement in feature films.

Initially, Sheridan made his mark in the movie industry by penning screenplays, and he’s known for writing movies such as Sicario (2015) and Hell or High Water (2016). Notably, he also wrote and directed Wind River (2017). Lately, with an increasing focus on TV projects, he’s been scripting films including Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), Without Remorse (2021), and Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021). However, F.A.S.T. might indicate that Sheridan could be heading back to feature film work after a hiatus in this area.

Our Take On F.A.S.T.

Why It’s One To Be Excited About

Skelnar, much like Spencer in the 1923 cast, played a pivotal role and his character’s narrative took up a substantial portion of both seasons. He masterfully combined raw physicality with making Spencer a sympathetic character that viewers wanted to support. Recently, he was a standout performer in Drop (2025), a Blumhouse thriller that received favorable criticism.

Taylor Sheridan’s notable feature film work, such as “Sicario” and “Hell or High Water,” has left a lasting impression, and with the addition of Skehanar in the leading role, F.A.S.T. is generating significant anticipation. Richardson’s participation also lends positivity to the project, given their successful collaboration on 1923. Time will tell how F.A.S.T. stacks up against Sheridan’s previous films, but it appears to be shaping up as an intriguing new venture for all involved parties.
