Yellowstone Season 5's Last Episodes Are Finally Coming, And I Can't Stop Thinking About These 5 Questions

As a hardcore Yellowstone fan who’s been following this gripping saga since its debut, I can’t help but feel like I’ve walked a mile in the boots of these characters. The suspense is killing me as we approach the final season!

By the time the last installments of “Yellowstone” air on the 2024 TV lineup, it will have been nearly two years since their premiere. This long wait has given us ample time to ponder about what’s to come and dwell on the unresolved threads left by the previous episode we watched. With these thoughts in mind, here are the five questions that I just can’t seem to get out of my head as we approach “Yellowstone’s” final episodes.

How Will Kevin Costner Be Written Off?

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been following the buzz around Yellowstone, and although we were told Kevin Costner wouldn’t reappear in June, not too long after Season 5B’s release date was announced, the speculation has been going on for over a year. Initially, when things seemed quite grim about his return, I found myself contemplating that perhaps Taylor Sheridan’s masterpiece could thrive without John Dutton.

Pause for a moment and consider this: if the head of the family were to pass away or depart, it would raise an issue among the children as to who should inherit and manage the ranch next.

In Season 5B, it seems likely that John’s storyline will play a significant role. However, I’m unsure about the methods they might use to write off Costner’s character. They could potentially reintroduce the cancer from earlier seasons or have him meet his end at the hands of one of the Duttons’ numerous adversaries. Frankly, there are countless possibilities, and I’ve been pondering these scenarios for quite some time. As for Jamie’s involvement in John’s exit, it’s a question that intrigues me as we delve into further discussions.

Is Jamie Going To Kill John?

It’s clear that the conflict between Jamie and Beth has escalated to a full-blown battle, and given the circumstances, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to imagine John finding himself caught in the middle. As stated by Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie, the last part of Season 5 is shaping up to be quite chaotic and violent. With Kevin Costner not returning and Jamie actively working against his sister and attempting to impeach their father, it’s a real possibility that John might get entangled in these power struggles.

Let’s ponder over Jamie’s troubled history as well. I don’t believe he recognizes the extent of his harshness and wickedness, yet he stands out as one of the most intimidating characters in the series. His actions speak volumes, as he not only took the life of a journalist at the show’s onset, but also ended the life of his biological father.

His interactions with Beth, John, and the rest of the Duttons have never been smooth, they’re completely fractured now. He’s making a play for the ranch, and I genuinely worry he’ll go to extreme lengths to secure it – possibly even harming Kevin Costner’s character in the process.

How Will Rip Moving With The Cows Impact His Relationship With Beth?

Towards the close of Season 5A, Rip along with many of the bunkhouse men were seen preparing to journey south with the cattle. In a heart-to-heart talk, he and Beth discuss their relationship, both committed to maintaining it despite uncertainty about what this relocation might bring.

Mostly, Rip and the rest of the characters from the famous Yellowstone series have stayed at the ranch. It’ll feel strange to see them absent from various perspectives.

What intrigues me most about this story is the potential effect on Rip and Beth’s relationship from the move. I believe they won’t split up, but it might lead to significant conflict, making it a pivotal moment for them. This could be positive or negative, marking a significant change in their relationship dynamics.

How Will Kayce And Monica’s Move Impact Their Place In The Dutton Family?

Recently, I’ve found myself disagreeing with the way Kayce’s character is being used in the narrative, as it seems they aren’t making full use of his potential.

At the final scene, John poses a question to Monica: Would Kayce consider managing the farm since Rip is departing with the cattle? As the head of the family, he proposes they be given a house close by. Upon discussing this matter, Kayce shares that his vision quest hinted at a future where he’d have to decide between the farm and Monica.

Monica suggests that “Perhaps it’s us, John and I,” implies they might assume joint leadership roles within the Dutton family on the ranch side, as they relocate to their new home at East Camp.

Instead, I’m more intrigued by understanding how this change might influence their relationships with Jamie, Beth, and the entire family. It’s fascinating to envision a scenario where they become more integrated into the family dynamics, rather than maintaining their usual detachment.

Jimmy’s Return Was Teased In The Mid-Season Finale, Will He Come Back?

For about half of Season 5, Jimmy, played by Jefferson White, had less screen time since he moved to Texas for work at the 6666 ranch. This was logical. However, towards the end of the season, he reappeared on our screens, allowing us a chance to reconnect with him and witness his transformation as a cowboy and human being overall.

Upcoming Yellowstone TV Shows: What’s Ahead For The Series And Upcoming Spinoffs

As a gamer, I’ve got to admit, this guy is killing it! The game’s sixth chapter has been an absolute blast for him so far. And here’s the kicker: the way his storyline was wrapped up at the close of Season 5’s first act suggests that he might just become a key player in the upcoming episodes.

Based on my years of experience in the world of television storytelling, it seems to me that our protagonist is likely headed to work with the ranchers from Yellostone, given his departure from Montana. It’s hard for me to envision him returning to his old ranch permanently, but I know how much fans enjoy seeing him alongside the other bunkhouse boys. So, in my humble opinion, this seems like the most plausible route for reintroducing him into the narrative.

More than anything, I hope Jimmy won’t slide back. He’s made such significant progress since departing from Yellowstone, and I wish for him to continue on this path. Ideally, he’ll contribute to the team, whether it’s in the South or Montana, all while preserving the joy and stability that seems to be blossoming at his new ranch.

In no time, all these queries, along with many others, will be resolved when the last season of Yellowstone begins broadcasting on November 10. If you want to refresh your memory before the grand debut, you can stream the initial four and a half seasons with a Peacock membership.
