'Yellowstone' Spin-off '1923' Sets Premiere Date for Season 2 With First Teasers

As someone who’s been following the Dutton family saga since the days of John and Beth, I must say I’m both excited and apprehensive about the return of 1923. On one hand, the prospect of more Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the Yellowstone universe is a tantalizing thought. On the other, the mixed reactions from critics and audiences have me wondering if this season will live up to the hype or fall short like a cowboy trying to ride a bucking bronco without a saddle.

It has been announced that the eagerly awaited spin-off series, “1923,” will premiere on its streaming platform next year, specifically on February 23, 2025. The highly anticipated Western series, featuring renowned actors such as Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, is now ready to resume its run with fresh episodes being released weekly. Additionally, two teaser trailers have been unveiled for the second and concluding season, offering a sneak peek into the upcoming events within the Dutton family’s era.

1923, a series crafted by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, brings together an impressive cast including Brandon Sklenar (The Offer), Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas), James Badge Dale (Hightown), Marley Shelton (Scream), Brian Geraghty (Big Sky), Aminah Nieves (Blueberry), Julia Schlaepfer (The Politician), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Peacemaker), Sebastian Roché (The Originals), and Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz, Toy Story 4). Additionally, Helen Mirren graces the screen. For Season 2, Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter joins the ensemble as U.S. Deputy Marshall Mamie Fossett. Here’s a glimpse of the official synopsis for 1923 Season 2.

In the second installment of ‘1923,’ a severe winter introduces fresh obstacles and lingering matters for Jacob (Ford) and Cara (Mirren) at the Dutton ranch. Under harsh weather conditions and enemies determined to extinguish the Dutton lineage, Spencer (Sklenar) undertakes a grueling journey back home, fighting against time to protect his family in Montana. Concurrently, Alexandra (Schlaepfer) ventures on a perilous trans-Atlantic trip to locate Spencer and restore their relationship.

‘1923’ Has Divided Critics and Audiences

Initiating in 2022, the first season of “1923” serves as a prequel to the hit series “Yellowstone,” delving into the Dutton family’s history a century earlier. This new chapter unfolds the tale of a fresh generation of Duttons, with Jacob (played by Ford) and Cara (portrayed by Mirren) at the helm as the patriarch and matriarch respectively. The story takes place during a time marked by numerous struggles, such as Western Expansion, pandemics, severe droughts, the conclusion of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. These adversities not only affect the mountain west but also the Dutton family who reside there.

1923, similar to the critically acclaimed series Yellowstone, has garnered extensive praise. The premiere episode of this prequel series boasts a “certified fresh” rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics enthralled by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren’s undeniable charm, and describing 1923 as “another solid, though unremittingly grim, addition to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe.

However, these feelings were not shared by audiences, with the series slapped with a score of 57% on the Popcornmeter. Despite this, 1923 saw huge viewership on Paramount+, reaching heights of 7.4 million viewers with its debut episode and thus becoming the biggest debut ever on the streamer.
