‘Yellowstone’ Star Jefferson White to Narrate ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ Audiobook

Actor Jefferson White, known for his role in Yellowstone, will narrate the audiobook version of Sunrise on the Reaping, as confirmed by Scholastic on Monday.

The eagerly awaited new novel titled “Sunrise on the Reaping“, set to release on March 18, is the next addition in the globally acclaimed The Hunger Games series authored by Suzanne Collins. This upcoming book unfolds within the world of Panem and is set 24 years before the occurrences of The Hunger Games, during the morning reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also recognized as the second Quarter Quell.

The 50th Hunger Games stand out as significant due to Haymitch Abernathy being the victor, a unique feat for District 12 before Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark’s win years later. Interestingly, Haymitch, who, like other winners, took on the role of mentoring tributes from his district, was portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the movie adaptations of The Hunger Games.

The movie version of “Sunrise on the Reaping,” produced by Lionsgate, is set for release on November 20, 2026. At this point, the actors who will star in it have not been revealed.

One of the spin-offs planned for the Yellowstone universe is a series based on the 6666 ranch, originally intended to feature White’s character Jimmy. However, creator Taylor Sheridan paused production following his acquisition of the Four Sixes ranch in Texas, where the show was set to be filmed. Unlike the fictional ranch in Yellowstone, the Four Sixes ranch, portrayed as the 6666 Ranch in the series, is a real property with actual families working there. Sheridan stated that for various reasons, this unique location requires a high level of special attention due to its authenticity and history. “It needs a level of unique care because this is a real place with real families,” he explained in The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 cover story, adding that patience is required as the studio must respect the property’s lineage.

In the final episode of season four, White’s character Jimmy from “Yellowstone” left as a primary character, but reappeared in subsequent seasons up until the most recent one (which also seems to be the final season) that concluded in December 2024.

Beyond just Yellowstone, White has also appeared in Alex Garland’s Civil War, sharing the screen with Kirsten Dunst, and William Oldroyd’s Eileen, featuring Anne Hathaway and Shea Whigham. Notably, Sunrise on the Reaping marks his debut in an audiobook.
