Yellowstone’s Unexpected End: OG Characters Return Sooner Than You Think

It’s possible that Yellowstone concluded earlier than anticipated, but the Dutton saga is far from over. Following the final episode in 2024, we delved deeper into their history through the 2025 TV schedule of 1923. This exploration only fueled more curiosity about the Dutton family lineage. Additionally, there’s another Yellowstone prequel on the horizon, along with series set after the original show about this family. We now have a general idea of when some of these projects will be released, and I must say, it’s sooner than I had anticipated.

Yellowstone Reportedly Ended Three Seasons Early

During the tumultuous two-year period spanning halfway through Yellowstone Season 5 and its conclusion, numerous accounts emerged suggesting a strained relationship between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan.

In June 2024, it was officially announced that Costner wouldn’t reprise his role as John Dutton on Yellowstone. This undeniably set off significant alterations within the show, given that its lead actor was stepping down. Interestingly, this seems to be the primary reason for the Western series ending after Season 5. As reported by Bloomberg, the Paramount Network series wrapped up approximately three seasons earlier than Sheridan had envisioned due to a disagreement with Costner.

It appears the initial intention was to continue the storyline of “Yellowstone” into Season 8, which is quite astonishing to consider. Although the series ended prematurely, some original characters will return with their own spin-offs, and it seems that we may be enjoying their company on our screens sooner than later.

However, The OG Characters Are Coming Back For New Shows And We Have An Idea Of When We’ll See Them

Following the conclusion of “Yellowstone”, there was an announcement about a potential spinoff focusing on Rip and Beth, currently known as “Dutton Ranch”. More recently, it has been suggested that a series centered around Kayce may be in development for CBS. This implies that three main stars of the original show – Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes – are expected to reprise their roles, ensuring we won’t be saying goodbye to the world of “Yellowstone” just yet.

How To Watch Yellowstone Shows

You can watch Yellowstone by subscribing to Peacock, and access all the related series with a Paramount+ subscription.

Apart from Cole Hauser hinting at waiting for “future developments,” there was little clue about the production timeline for these series. Yet, a recent Bloomberg report seems to provide some insight into possible launch dates.

According to reports, the Dutton Ranch is expected to make its first appearance on the Paramount Network this coming fall, which translates to a 2025 release date. This premiere is scheduled to take place just about a year after Yellowstone concludes its run. So, get ready, folks! Given that we had to wait two whole years for the second half of Season 5, the thought of only having to wait one year for Rip and Beth’s return is truly exciting news.

Additionally, it seems that Kayce’s spinoff will be airing on CBS as early as 2026. Given that we just heard about this venture back in March, I find the timeline rather quick.

It appears that the popular characters from the original series Yellowstone will likely return to our screens in no time, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!

Besides these two shows, they’re also part of a collection featuring Michelle Pfeiffer’s “The Madison” spinoff and the prequel, “1944”. Essentially, there’s an abundance of “Yellowstone” content to fill the gap left by the original series’ premature conclusion.

Rest assured, everyone, several cherished characters from “Yellowstone” will return in their individual spin-off series within approximately the next year.
