Yo Yo Honey Singh says he doesn’t 'give a s*** about allegations of making misogynistic songs; ‘Sirf main hi kyun galat hoon?’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cultural trends, I must say that Yo Yo Honey Singh is undeniably a trailblazer in the world of Punjabi music, particularly his impact on Bollywood and global audiences. However, it’s essential to address the concerns surrounding the content of some of his songs, which are often labeled as objectionable or misogynistic.

Yo Yo Honey Singh is often recognized as a key figure in reshaping Punjabi music on a global scale, particularly its popularity within Bollywood films. Yet, his songs’ lyrics have been frequently criticized as offensive and misogynistic by some. In a recent interview with The Times of India, the artist expressed bewilderment over the fact that others engaging in similar practices often go unchallenged, while he is singled out as an easy target for criticism.

In a somewhat casual manner, Yo Yo Honey Singh expressed his feelings by saying, “I couldn’t care less, but I suppose I should respond to this.” He began his discussion with an example provided by the veteran lyricist Gulzar: ‘Beedi jalaile jigar se piya, jigar mein badi aag hai.’ Singh questioned, “Where does the heart of a woman reside? This seems misogynistic to me. ‘Zuban pe laga namak ishq ka’, why is he referring to the tongue of a woman…I find myself feeling increasingly troubled by this. Why am I the only one finding it wrong?

Honey Singh previously avoided responding to accusations, which made some people view him as an easy target for criticism. However, he’s now decided to speak up. When directly asked about his lyrics being disrespectful towards women, Honey replied with “That shouldn’t happen” in Hindi. The singer of Chaar Botal Vodka admitted that there were similar songs in the past, but they seemed acceptable to listeners.

41-year-old Honey Singh stated, “Why are you using abusive language towards me and calling me a legend? I also say it. We’re living with multiple personalities in today’s world. We’re modernizing but still thinking backward.” In simpler terms, he means that people are both praising him and criticizing him at the same time, and this duality is part of his current existence.

Yo Yo Honey Singh is known for producing numerous hit songs throughout his illustrious career, such as Angreji Beat, Party All Night, Lungi Dance, Blue Eyes, Sunny Sunny, Chaar Botal Vodka, Aata Majhi Satakli, Yaar Naa Miley, Desi Kalakar, and Blue Eyes, to name a few. Unfortunately, the rapper took a hiatus from 2014 to 2021 as he grappled with mental health struggles and substance abuse issues.

Currently, he’s once again a center of attention, yet his recent albums have garnered only modest acclaim. Meanwhile, anticipation builds for the upcoming Netflix documentary detailing his extraordinary life and contentious battles, which is still under production.
