According to a well-known source, known as Kang, it’s possible to obtain the highly anticipated new Nintendo console through a purchase on the Chinese black market.
On Reddit, user Top_Bodybuilder_2126 posted a screenshot from Discord showing Kang admitting that the console was unlawfully distributed for use in manufacturing accessories. It’s understandable why accessory manufacturers like Genki would want to acquire one of these consoles to create accessories with precise dimensions.
Instead of purchasing a Nintendo Switch 2 from black markets, you might find that what you receive is not exactly as expected. Since there are currently no leaks of the new console’s user interface or software, it’s likely that these unauthorized devices lack an operational system and cannot run games. This could be ideal for individuals who only want to examine the physical aspects of the consoles without intending to use them.
Content creators focusing on hardware reviews, accessory manufacturing, or any related field that emphasizes the console’s physical aspects might not necessarily require booting up Switch 2 for their work.
According to the French website Numerama, rumors circulated that Genki showcased their CES 2025 Switch 2 using a non-officially obtained Switch 2 console. While some fans believe Genki has no partnership with Nintendo, how they acquired a Switch 2 for manufacturing accessories is still unclear.
Before clicking on suspicious links promising early access to the Switch 2 ahead of its release, pause for thought. Although the Switch 2 is known to be backward compatible, it won’t function without an operating system, making it nothing more than a beautifully crafted, yet inoperable paperweight.
