By the close of the spring 2025 TV season, CBS had become a hub for some of the largest debut hits on network television, with Morris Chestnut’s series Watson being one of them. This doctor/detective drama drew inspiration from the classic Sherlock Holmes tales, featuring characters like John Watson, Mary Morstan, and James Moriarty, but infused with a contemporary medical flair. Despite the show getting renewed for a second season, there’s a delay in its return, as shared by one CBS executive. This news reminded me of more optimistic comments from cast member Peter Mark Kendall during earlier interviews.
Why CBS Is Delaying Watson Season 2
Instead of appearing on Dick Wolf’s upcoming CIA series and the 2024-2025 hit show Matlock on CBS’ fall TV schedule for the 2025-2026 season, Watson will be back in a midseason premiere, likely around early 2026. Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, spoke about this decision to Deadline.
In the interim, we strongly encourage audiences to stream it on Paramount+. Regrettably, there simply wasn’t enough space in our schedule for it. Upon examination, there was nowhere else on the schedule that seemed like a suitable fit.
The cancellation of “The Equalizer” means that the network’s fresh lineup on Sunday nights during midseason will feature the third season of Justin Hartley’s show “Tracker”, a spinoff of “Yellowstone” titled “Y: Marshals” starring Luke Grimes, and the second season of “Watson”. “Tracker” will maintain its 8 p.m. ET time slot, with “Y: Marshals” taking over at 9 p.m. ET and “Watson” airing at 10 p.m. ET instead.
Amy Reisenbach expressed her belief that the other two dramas would serve as substantial precursors to Watson. She further elaborated on why this could be advantageous for anyone subscribed to Paramount+.
Watson performs exceptionally on live streams, and considering its dedicated fanbase on Paramount+, we believe viewers who might miss it at 10 pm can still catch up via streaming. It seems to offer the ideal blend of traditional broadcasting and on-demand viewing.
In summary, while CBS’s news about the next chapter of Watson might disappoint fans due to the wait until 2026, I find solace in anticipating a more positive development from the series following Peter Mark Kendall’s characters’ finale.

Peter Mark Kendall On Stephens’ Relationships
In essence, the climax of Season 1’s final episode didn’t go smoothly for the Croft twins, with their situations appearing so dire that it seemed one might not make it through and Peter Mark Kendall would likely be portraying either Stephens or Adam in Season 2. However, luckily, both twins managed to pull through, ensuring that Kendall will once again play two significant roles in the upcoming season. Additionally, the character of Stephens, who was previously on the brink of death, ended up receiving a touching kiss from Sasha following her heartfelt speech to him while he was unconscious earlier during the finale, making for a rather sweet turn of events.
During my conversation with Peter Mark Kendall regarding the finale of Season 1, I enquired about his experience filming Sasha’s powerful speech to Stephen, given that Inga Schlingmann delivered an impressive portrayal, while he had to act as if in a coma. He responded by sharing:
In discussing the Season 1 finale with Peter Mark Kendall, I asked him about filming Sasha’s emotional speech to Stephen. Despite Inga Schlingmann giving a stellar performance, Peter had to pretend to be in a coma on set. He then revealed his thoughts on the experience.
That role seems like a dream come true! There are no lines to memorize, and you mostly watch others deliver stunning performances. [laughs] However, what truly mattered was seeing the storyline that had been subtly suggested throughout the season finally unfold on paper and screen. Acting alongside such a delightful cast has been an absolute joy, and I can only hope there’s more for Stephens and Sasha in the future, whatever it may hold. Playing that climactic scene at the end of the season was truly rewarding after all the ‘Will they or won’t they?’ tension.
In the climax, the principal character mercilessly ended his arch-enemy (portrayed brilliantly by Randall Park), while it seemed Ingrid might be wrapping up her time with the group. Yet, the heartwarming scene between Sasha and Stephens offered a hopeful glimpse into what’s to come as we move towards Season 2.
In the final two episodes, Adam and Stephens’ bond became crucial as they both confronted the possibility of losing each other. Their disagreements were common throughout Season 1, but when their lives hung in the balance, tension definitely escalated! With that harrowing experience behind them, it makes one wonder if their relationship will evolve after this ordeal. Although Season 2 is still a while away, Peter Mark Kendall offered some insights on what to expect:
The dynamics between siblings often shift, and it seems to me that this holds true for the Croft twins too. They’ve had their fair share of disagreements, but they’ve also experienced profound moments of understanding at the end of each season. Despite their frequent clashes, they remain brothers, a bond that makes them each other’s closest allies and fiercest adversaries simultaneously. Familial ties have an uncanny ability to infuriate and endear like no one else can. However, I believe their bond has grown stronger over time as well. This might amplify both the intensity of their conflicts and the depth of their affection for each other. [laughs]
From personal experience, I can attest that no one can irritate you quite like your own family! Whether or not Stephens will deliver a best man speech for Adam on Watson, let’s hope for the best – fingers crossed!
While we eagerly anticipate Season 2, fans can always catch up with the first season of “Watson” on Paramount+. It’s worth noting that taking over “The Equalizer”‘s time slot, following Queen Latifah’s show cancellation a year ago, might not necessarily mean trouble ahead for the future of the show.
