After decades away, it’s now time for a return to your cherished sanctuary, as Happy steps onto the green once more, embodying one of his most adored roles in the upcoming sequel. Nearly 30 years have passed, and yet, he’s back, sporting his beloved Boston Bruins hockey jersey and employing his distinctive swing to send balls soaring aloft. With Netflix Tudum, we get a sneak peek at this highly anticipated continuation.
Last year, Netflix confirmed a sequel to the popular sports comedy, with Adam Sandler set to reprise his role as the main character and co-write the script alongside Tim Herlihy, who wrote the original movie. In this new installment, Sandler will team up once again with Kyle Newacheck, director of “Murder Mystery,” while a filmmaker known for projects like “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Workaholics,” “Community,” and “Parks and Recreation” takes over directing duties from Dennis Dugan, who directed “Happy Gilmore.
In the upcoming sequel, we’ll see some familiar characters rejoining Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore. For instance, Christopher McDonald (known for films like “Thelma & Louise” and “The House Bunny”) is coming back to play Shooter McGavin, while Julie Bowen (“Modern Family” and “Hubie Halloween”) is set to return as Virginia Venit. Moreover, Ben Stiller, famous for movies such as “Tropic Thunder” and “Zoolander,” will be back as Hal L., the mischievous orderly who caused trouble for Happy’s grandma in the original film.
Apart from Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known as Bad Bunny (from “Bullet Train”), NFL winner Travis Kelce (featured in “Grotesquerie”), Conor Sherry (“The Terminal List”), Ethan Cutowsky (“Shameless”), Maxwell Jacob Friedman (“The Iron Claw”), Philip Fine Schneider, Scott Mescudi, also known as Kid Cudi (“Trap”), Margaret Qualley (“The Substance”), Benny Safdie (“Oppenheimer”), and Nick Swardson (“Just Go with It”) are part of the main cast. The upcoming sequel will feature appearances by several professional golfers, including Keegan Bradley, John Daly, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, and others.
‘Happy Gilmore 2‘ Is Due To Debut on Netflix on July 25
Originally unveiled in 1996, the initial “Happy Gilmore” film features Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and the late, iconic Carl Weathers. The story revolves around a struggling ice hockey player with a fiery temper named Happy, who stumbles upon golfing prowess. Although the first film received mixed reviews initially, it has since developed a devoted fanbase, eagerly awaiting the comeback of Gilmore and the ongoing feud between him and the antagonistic Shooter McGavin.
Regrettably, a number of esteemed actors from the movie “Happy Gilmore” have passed away, including Bob Barker, the long-time host of “The Price is Right,” Carl Weathers, known for his roles in “Predator” and “Rocky,” comedy star Joe Flaherty, and Frances Bay, who portrayed Grandma Gilmore. However, Adam Sandler has assured us that “Happy Gilmore 2,” set to premiere on Netflix on July 25, 2025, will honor them all, with the actor stating, “somehow they’ll be included in the story.
