As a longtime fan of Dino Crisis, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia when I see Stefano Cagnani’s Project Crisis remake. Having grown up playing the original games, I remember the thrill of exploring Raptor Island and battling dinosaurs in the dark corridors with my heart pounding.
If you’re a die-hard Dino Crisis fan yearning for a new installment, update, or enhancement, here’s some exciting news: You can now experience an Unreal Engine 5 rendition of the cherished cult classic. However, there’s a bit of a hitch – read on to find out more.
The important thing to note is that the Dino Crisis UE5 version is a fan-created project. This remake of Project Crisis was singlehandedly developed by Stefano Cagnani, with the goal of generating some buzz around the franchise and demonstrating to Capcom that they might be overlooking an opportunity by not reviving Dino Crisis.
Working on this project singlehandedly means it may not fully leverage Unreal Engine 5’s capabilities, but the trailer hints that Cagnani is enhancing the visual aspects substantially, maintaining the sense of solitude that was characteristic of the initial game.
Even though the project isn’t finished yet, if you’re passionate about dinosaurs, you can give it a spin with the free demo available on Cagnani’s official website for this homemade project.
As the creator explains, this venture draws its influence from contemporary Resident Evil reboots that transitioned from a stationary, fixed-camera view to a third-person standpoint, thereby enhancing the gameplay by offering a more fluid and less rigid gaming experience.
It’s quite a puzzle why Dino Crisis, a seemingly forgotten franchise from Capcom, continues to fly under the radar. Initially, it made sense when Capcom was grappling with creating successful games and had to prioritize safety. However, given that Capcom is arguably in its second creative renaissance, now might be an ideal moment for them to dabble in lesser-known intellectual properties (IPs), such as Dino Crisis.

Over the past six years, Capcom has released eight of its top ten highest-selling video games, excluding Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6, two highly successful games set to be launched in 2023 that continue to sell exceptionally well and climb the sales charts.
It would be great if the fan-made Dino Crisis project ignites enough enthusiasm in Capcom to revive the series at last. Even if the excitement doesn’t directly lead to sales, now is an ideal moment for a pioneering venture like this by the Japanese corporation.
