You Should Look for Some NBA Finals Easter Eggs in SYFY’s Revival (Yes, Really)

It’s interesting to note these seemingly unconnected facts: The TV series “Revival” has just started its freshman season on SYFY, while the Indiana Pacers continue their basketball games in late June.

Is it difficult to spot a shared element linking SYFY’s chilling new comic-based horror series and the Pacers pushing for a decisive Game 7 in the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder? Surprisingly, you can find it embedded in entertaining Easter egg references scattered throughout ‘Revival’, as Aaron B. Koontz, the series’ co-developer and co-showrunner (alongside Luke Boyce), had cleverly concealed them during production of the show’s inaugural season.

How did NBA Easter eggs end up in SYFY’s Revival?

Hailing from Indianapolis, I (Zach C. Koontz) proudly admit my affection for the Indiana Pacers, so with their incredible advance to the NBA finals and the successful premiere of my undead horror spectacle, “Scare Package,” on SYFY this month, it’s safe to say that 2021 has been an exceptionally rewarding year for me. With the underdog Pacers standing just one game away from potentially etching their names in NBA history, I decided to share my secret Easter egg hidden in “Revival” with fellow fans.

Over the past two years while the Pacers were on a roll, I had the privilege of creating the REVIVAL series for SYFY and Peacock. This incredible opportunity allowed me to hide countless Indy Easter Eggs within it. Two dreams I’ve always cherished are developing my own show and witnessing the Indiana Pacers claim the championship. Now, my show has finally been released! I’ll be in Oklahoma City for Game 7.

For the past two years, while the Pacers were on their winning streak, I was busy creating the REVIVAL series for SYFY and Peacock. Throughout this project, I incorporated many Indianapolis-themed elements as a tribute to my hometown.

In other words: During the exciting run of the Indiana Pacers, I’ve been working on the REVIVAL series for SYFY and Peacock, adding numerous Easter Eggs related to Indianapolis throughout the show, as it is one of my dreams to create a TV show and to see the Pacers win a championship. Now, my dream show is out in the world, and I’ll be in Oklahoma City for Game 7! (Going all-in emoji to express excitement)

Nestled in the heartland of the Upper Midwest, the gripping series “Revival” is captivating audiences and critics alike with its skillfully woven “agricultural mystery” narrative. In this quaint Wisconsin town, individuals who have recently passed away inexplicably return to life, adding an intriguing twist to everyday rural life.

In “Revival,” Koontz doesn’t explicitly mention where his NBA Easter egg references can be found, so it’s fortunate that the show’s initial 10-episode season is still in its early stages – only two episodes have aired thus far. What’s more, if you’re keen on searching for these hidden clues, you can stream the already-aired episodes on Peacock.

Adapted for the small screen by Koontz and Boyce, based on the Image Comics series “Revival” written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Mike Norton, this show features Melanie Scrofano from “Wynonna Earp” as Dana Cypress, a small-town police officer. The main cast also includes Romy Weltman (“Murdoch Mysteries”), David James Elliott (“Mad Men”), and Andy McQueen (“Mrs. Davis”). A variety of recurring guest stars are also featured, including Steven Ogg from “The Walking Dead” and Phil Brooks, known as CM Punk on “Mayans M.C.
