For five days, I was in New York, a time that coincided with our press day and our initial screening. Amidst the interviews and preparations for the premiere, I found myself engrossed in the script, exclaiming, ‘Oh my goodness, I adore this!’

As a movie enthusiast, I found myself seized by an irresistible urge yesterday. The opportunity to engage with the visionary director, Madeleine Rotzler, was an event not to be missed. With unrelenting determination, I swiftly departed from my hotel, eager to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

The red carpet premiere followed, a spectacle of glamour and excitement that left me breathless. After the captivating event, I found myself back at the meeting, immersed in stimulating discussions about the art of filmmaking. The night culminated with an exhilarating after-party, where the energy was palpable and electric.

Looking back, it seems as though the day was a whirlwind of chaos and thrill. Yet, amidst the madness, I can’t help but feel that when destiny aligns, there is simply no stopping it from unfolding.

What was it about Horizon that had Bakalova sprinting across New York to join the project? Well, Horizon is a festive ode to independent cinema with a science fiction flair. Written and directed by Madeleine Rotzler, Bakalova takes on the role of Abby, a keen neuroscientist who stumbles upon innovative AI technology that enables her to reconnect with her late father, portrayed by David Strathairn. The film, which raises thought-provoking questions and hints at magical realism, also features Adam Pally and musician Aimee Mann.

Following her impressive portrayal as the daughter of the fictional Kazakh reporter Borat Sagdiyev (Sacha Baron Cohen) in the film “Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm” in 2020, she landed the role of Bee, the seemingly innocent character among a group of cynical wealthy young adults in “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” More recently, she has lent her voice to Cosmo the Dog in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy series and Princess Ilana in DC’s “Creature Commandos,” as well as returning to comedy with Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted and taking on a tough role in “Dirty Angels.
