This captivating series boasts an impressive cast including Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Dame Helen Mirren. Initially envisioned as a spin-off of “Ray Donovan” in the United States, it later shifted locations to London. The plot revolves around two powerful crime families competing for control of the city, with Harry Da Souza, a fixer, serving as the central link between them.
From March 30 to June 1, a total of 10 episodes of the series called “MobLand” will be aired. The initial two episodes will debut simultaneously, followed by a new episode every Sunday thereafter, all on Sundays. Fans of the hit British crime show, “Peaky Blinders“, may recognize Geoff Bell among the cast, as they tune into “MobLand” which premieres on Paramount+ within the next week. Here’s a look at some of the actors and main characters in “MobLand“.
Tom Hardy & Joanne Froggatt as Harry & Jan Da Souza
In the gritty crime drama “MobLand”, Tom Hardy (known for his roles in “Venom” and “Mad Max: Fury Road”) takes on the character of Harry Da Souza. This tough-as-nails individual is a problem solver who tidies up messy crime scenes for corrupt criminals. Harry is employed by the Harrigan crime family based in London, where he’s tasked with shielding them from competing gangs such as the rapidly ascending Stevenson family. Despite his questionable actions and readiness to carry out dirty work for criminals, Harry leads a married life with the enigmatic Jan, portrayed by Joanne Froggatt, who is well-known for her role in “Downton Abbey”.
In a reunion not seen since 2008’s “RocknRolla”, Jason Statham (MobLand) teams up once again with director Guy Ritchie, who they last worked together with over a decade ago. Additionally, Statham joins forces with Anthony Byrne, the man behind the camera for “Peaky Blinders”, following his nearly decade-long stint as Alfie Solomon on the popular British crime drama series. Since her departure from “Downton Abbey”, Sarah Parish has graced our screens in productions such as “Bob the Builder”, “The Commons”, “Liar”, “The Harrowing”, and “Angela Black”.
Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren Lead the Harrigan Family
In the lead roles of the Harrigan family, we have Pierce Brosnan portraying Conrad and Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan. This crime-ridden clan enlists Harry Da Souza to safeguard their London domain, eager to preserve their dominance and pass on their influence to future generations through their offspring. Apart from his stint as 007, Brosnan is recognized for movies like “Mamma Mia”, “Matador”, and “Mrs. Doubtfire”. He is also featured in Steven Soderbergh’s production, “Black Bag”. Meanwhile, Dame Helen Mirren, known for her extensive historical films, currently plays Cara Dutton on Paramount+’s prequel to “Yellowstone”, titled “1923”.
In the criminal underworld known as MobLand, we meet the Harrigans – led by Kevin Harrigan (Paddy Considine). He’s joined by his wife Bella Harrigan (Lara Pulver) and their rebellious son, Eddie Harrigan (Anson Boon). The eldest son is Brendan Harrigan (Daniel Betts), while Conrad has a daughter from a past relationship named Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon).
Considine shines as an accomplished actor, recognized for his roles in “Peaky Blinders”, “House of the Dragon”, and “The Outsider”. Pulver, a seasoned television personality, has graced screens in shows like “The Alienist”, “Da Vinci’s Demons”, “The Split”, “Maternal”, among others. Boon’s resume boasts credits in “1917”, “Crawl”, “Pistol”, and “Widow Cliquot”. Betts is recognized for his work in “Here”, “Gentleman Jack”, and “The New Look”. Dhillon can be found in “Peacock”, “CSI: Vegas”, and “Avoidance”. This stellar blend of both young and seasoned TV and film performers will breathe life into the series “MobLand”.
Geoff Bell as Ritchie & Alex Fine as Donnie
In this gritty world of crime and power struggles, I, Geoff Bell, step into the role of Ritchie, head of the Stevenson family in MobLand. My character is locked in a fierce competition with the Harrigans for dominance in the underworld, creating chaos throughout South London. As Harry grapples with maintaining control amidst the turmoil, Ritchie and my ruthless gang become formidable adversaries, eager to seize the Harrigans’ empire. Alongside Harry’s foe Donnie (Alex Fine), Ritchie poses one of the biggest threats to the Harrigans as they fight tooth and nail to hold onto their power.
For the first time since their collaboration on King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Bell meets up with Ritchie once more. Notably, Bell has also been seen in Absentia, The Curse, and The Wheels of Heaven recently. Alex Fine, a fresh face in the industry, boasts credits such as 1883 (a spin-off of Yellowstone), American Primeval, and The Resurrection of Charles Manson. It remains to be seen if Ritchie and Alex will join forces against Harry in MobLand, but either way, Harry must confront them both somehow.
Miscellaneous MobLand Characters, Explained
I, a dedicated cinephile, have the pleasure of witnessing Jasmine Jobson portray Zosia in the gripping series, “MobLand.” In this captivating role, she stands as one of Harry’s most trusted outsiders, an essential ally who helps Harry navigate legal crises, evade dangerous enemies, and maintain the Harrigan family’s influence amidst any situation. Jobson’s impressive resume includes notable performances in “Top Boy,” “Platform 7,” and “Bird.
In addition to the main cast of MobLand, you’ll find characters like Lisa Dwan, who portrays Harrigan’s family lawyer, O’Hara. Previously, Dwan has acted alongside Jobson in Top Boy, and her appearances can also be spotted in Blackshore, Bloodlands, and other productions. Emily Barber takes on the role of Alice in MobLand, a character who becomes friends with Jan at a local support group. Barber is renowned for her roles in Bridgerton, The Alienist, and Bodies.
Speaking of standout performances, let me tell you about the incredible Janet McTeer in the gritty series “MobLand.” She portrays a ruthlessly clever character named Kat who is ready to test my mettle. You might recognize her from gems like “Albert Nobbs,” “Ozark,” and most recently, “The Menu.” This woman can act!
MobLand can be streamed on Paramount+ starting March 30, 2025
