The MonsterVerse primarily consists of a movie series, with all five films accessible through a Max subscription, and another movie slated for release in 2027. On the other hand, an Apple TV+ membership grants access to the franchise’s only live-action television production, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters“. Three months post the first season finale, “Monarch” was renewed for a second season, and I’m thrilled about how the cast commemorated the end of filming nearly a year following the initial announcement.
Monarch Season 2 began filming in July 2024, and eight months later, cameras have officially stopped rolling on the next batch of episodes. This update shared on Instagram and other social media platforms was accompanied by a picture of actors Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe and Takehiro Hira, as well as an amusing message for us to not look too closely at the wreckage surrounding them.

It seems there could be Titan involvement in this location. Despite the challenging roles these four actors – Sawai, Clemons, Watabe, and Hira – appear to be portraying in this scene for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, they seem quite joyful. After spending eight months working on a TV show or even a film, it’s understandable that they would be overjoyed once shooting was completed.
It’s highly probable that the team behind “Monarch” filmed Skull Island scenes in the location I’m referring to. This assumption is bolstered by the presence of Operation Hourglass vehicle, as characters like Sawai’s Cate Randa, Clemons’ May, and Mari Yamamoto’s Keiko used it to leave Axis Mundy, a realm situated between Earth and Hollow Earth. In the last moments of “Monarch” Season 1, we see these three characters appearing on Skull Island, although it was approximately a year and a half after Cate and May were sent into Axis Mundy.

Take advantage of a week-long free trial with Apple TV Plus! New users can enjoy streaming this unique service from Apple without any charges for the first seven days. After that, it’s just $9.99 per month to keep up with captivating series like “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” Season 1 before Season 2 premieres, as well as hit shows such as “Ted Lasso”, “Severance”, and “Slow Horses”. Don’t miss out on this great offer!
It seems I’ve got it right, and I’m confident about it. In Monarch Season 2, we can expect to spend more time on Skull Island. Given that an Apex Cybernetics facility has been set up there, and Kong is currently inhabiting the island according to the MonsterVerse timeline, it would be a missed opportunity not to revisit this location where many Titans dwell. However, with debris scattered everywhere, it’s clear that some of these colossal monsters will undoubtedly create chaos around Skull Island’s man-made structures.
In the sequel of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” titled Season 2, we find ourselves approximately two years prior to the events depicted in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but actress Anna Sawai hinted last November that character Cate Randa could have a greater role this time around. Additionally, it has been announced that Amber Midthunder, known for her role in “Prey,” will join the cast of Season 2 as an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement that the filming for Season 2 of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” has wrapped up. However, it’s still shrouded in mystery when this fantastic series will make its grand entrance on Apple TV+. Perhaps we’ll catch a sneak peek towards the end of the 2025 TV calendar, or maybe it’ll be held back for a grand unveiling in 2026. Regardless, rest assured that TopMob will keep you posted with all the latest scoops about what the future holds for “Monarch”.
