You Won’t Believe What Harvey Just Did to Save Ted’s Case in Suits LA!

Gabriel Macht reprised his beloved character Harvey Specter in the eighth episode of Suits LA, titled “Acapulco”. This was the second time he appeared in the spinoff series, and his involvement significantly impacted the plot. In this installment, Harvey aids Ted with the Pellegrini case that has been ongoing throughout the season, while also revealing crucial developments for the final two episodes of the first season.

In “Suits LA” Season 1, Episode 8, while Ted and Harvey take center stage, Erica’s side storyline becomes captivating as she stirs up office turmoil. Throughout the season, romantic tension has been palpable, and in this episode, a character confessed their feelings for another. Here’s a rundown of all the events that unfolded in Season 1, Episode 8.

Harvey Specter Returns To Help Ted

From my perspective, the narrative arc of “Acapulco’s” Ted revolves around his confrontation with mob boss John Pellegrini and the resolution of their case. The storyline starts with a scene where Eddie is resting on Ted’s couch, and it transpires that Ted is anxious about the upcoming trial. However, he invited his brother to stay with him because he yearns for Samantha. In the following morning, we find Ted in the courthouse bathroom, and there, he encounters Pellegrini who tries to unsettle him.

During the court proceedings, Ted summons Jimmy Patriale, who is alleged to be Pellegrini’s hitman, to testify. However, things don’t unfold as planned, and Ted appears dishonest in the eyes of the jury. Ted finds himself at a loss on how to proceed with the trial. Yet, an unexpected encounter at his apartment provides him with renewed determination – he sees Eddie wearing one of Ted’s suits. Eddie explains that other children wore costumes because they wanted to emulate Superman, but Eddie aspired to be like Ted. This encouragement helps Ted delve into Pellegrini’s financial records, although he doesn’t find the crucial evidence he needs.

At the trial, Ted brings Jimmy Patriale, a man believed to be Pellegrini’s hitman, to testify. However, things don’t turn out as expected, leaving Ted appearing untrustworthy in front of the jury. Ted struggles to move forward with the trial, but an unexpected meeting at his apartment gives him the motivation he needs – Eddie, wearing one of Ted’s suits, shares that other children wore costumes to imitate Superman, while Eddie wanted to resemble Ted. This boosts Ted’s determination to examine Pellegrini’s finances, even though he doesn’t find the necessary evidence.

Ted doubts that they can prevail in the court case, but he spots Stuart at the courthouse. Stuart travels from far away to New York specifically for Ted and informs him that he has lost three people due to the Pellegrini case, and if Ted can’t change things, nobody can. During the trial, Ted recalls Jimmy to the witness stand, and Jimmy provides an emotional account of how Billy was his friend, which is why Ted vividly remembers Pellegrini giving him instructions directly.

Following his departure from the courtroom, Ted finds himself fretting about whether Jimmy’s testimony was sufficient, when – lo and behold – Harvey arrives bearing the crucial details Ted had been seeking. Harvey explains that the business had severed ties with their lawyer, Daniel Hardman (a key character from Suits, soon to reappear in the spinoff), which is why he’s willing to share the records with Ted. Moreover, Harvey consents to testify with this information at hand, aiming to strengthen Ted’s case and secure a victory for him.

Pellegrini Rears His Head in the Present Day

Currently within the narrative, Amanda Stevens is contemplating whether to accept Ted’s proposition to lead his company’s criminal division. As they review resumes for potential lawyers, she listens to Ted’s tales from his days as a prosecutor, growing increasingly concerned about how he lost that position. She confides in Stuart for counsel, despite her dislike for him. In essence, Amanda seeks Stuart’s opinion on whether Ted is unethical, to which Stuart responds by explaining that there’s a distinction between unethical and immoral for Ted; he suggests that Ted bends the rules when he truly believes in a cause.

Stuart’s high regard for Ted influences Amanda to accept the job offer. However, she confides in Ted that she must feel comfortable with her role as a defender for accused individuals. Additionally, Amanda subtly expresses interest in exploring a potential romantic relationship between them, an idea that appears to catch Ted off guard.

The episode concludes with a reference to the Pellegrini case. Later, Harvey travels to Los Angeles where he encounters Ted. It appears that Ted had managed to imprison Pellegrini when he was in New York, but now Pellegrini is free again. Harvey requests Ted’s assistance in re-incarcerating Pellegrini, which necessitates Ted’s return to New York from Los Angeles.

Stuart and Rick Work Together Again

Stuart is currently handling a case for a new client, David Bowie (not the famous musician), who has been causing trouble at studios by silencing whistleblowers. David Bowie was employed to keep quiet a woman who witnessed a death on a movie set. Stuart requires additional details about this woman and enlists Rick’s assistance. During dinner with a producer involved in the film, Rick connects them, and after some pressure, Stuart manages to get the producer to disclose that the woman had previously spent time in rehab for drug addiction issues.

In my own words as a movie buff, Later on, I approach Isaac Adani, the attorney for the woman in question. I propose to him that he might want to lessen some of David Bowie’s accusations, claiming I can sway the jury into believing his client is a greedy drug addict. Isaac warns me that David Bowie has a history of using intimidation tactics, something that takes me by surprise. As time is limited in this storyline, many intricate details are left out, but essentially, I return to my own client. During our conversation, David Bowie acknowledges he’s threatened numerous individuals, yet can’t recall every single name. This response seems satisfactory to me until the end of the episode when I enter Rick’s office. There, I present him with a newspaper headline and suggest that one of the people David Bowie intimidated may have met an untimely end.

Erica Creates a Toxic Workplace

At the onset of the episode, Erica’s mother contacts her to share the news that their neighbor, Arthur, has passed away. This deeply affects Erica as he had been kind to her during her childhood. Initially planning to visit her house that evening, Erica receives a call for a dinner engagement with her client, Adam Driver. Feeling compelled to inform Leah Power about this unexpected dinner invite, Erica learns that Leah has just received tragic news about her cat’s demise. Upon learning this, Leah politely declines, stating she needs personal space tonight, and Erica reproaches Leah for not being willing to prioritize her clients over personal matters.

Interestingly, instead of asking Ted out for dinner with Adam Driver to avoid doing it herself, Erica finds herself needing to speak with him. However, his assistant, Roslyn, steps in and directs Erica to meet Marvin, the new head of human resources. Marvin informs Erica that he caught wind of her discussion with Leah and felt her tone was unprofessional. This leaves Erica feeling frustrated as she believes she’s being reprimanded while others have asked her to abandon tasks throughout her career.

Later, Roslyn approaches Erica and expresses her annoyance over Erica’s anger towards Marvin. Roslyn explains to Erica that in their line of work, people often try to skirt around rules, so it’s crucial to have HR support. After discussing with Marvin about her emotions, Erica returns to Leah and expresses her feelings, admitting she felt abandoned when Leah didn’t show up for dinner. However, matters escalate when Erica adds that even though Leah’s cat had passed away, she could have still attended the dinner.

In a less than satisfactory conclusion, Leah’s storyline culminates with her visiting her mother and weeping, yet it doesn’t provide a satisfying resolution. I’m growing weary of seeing Leah, a promising young lawyer full of enthusiasm for entertainment, being constantly belittled by other characters. It’s disheartening to see such a rich character dynamic being squandered. Moreover, it’s refreshing that an HR representative has been introduced to tackle the workplace toxicity, but it appears as though there is still much work to be done, given what Erica shared with Leah at the end of the episode.

Suits LA‘s upcoming episode is set to broadcast this coming Sunday, April 20th, at 9 PM. You can catch it live or wait until the following day when it will be available for streaming on Peacock.
