Regardless of whether you’ve followed Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS or are just getting to know Austin Stowell’s portrayal in NCIS: Origins, there is a significant incident in Gibbs’ life that you may be familiar with – the act of taking revenge on the man who murdered his wife and daughter. The spin-off has delved into the details of how Gibbs tracked down and killed drug dealer Pedro Hernandez. However, such a secret can only remain hidden for so long, and while Mike Franks and Lala Dominguez are aware of Gibbs’ actions, another character from the original series is slated to appear on the prequel later this month according to the 2025 TV schedule, investigating Hernandez’s murder.
Claire Berger, who made an appearance on ‘The Midnight Club’, will portray the younger version of Lara Macy in the final episode of Season 1 of ‘Origins’, titled “Cecilia”. This character was previously played by Louise Lombard in the NCIS Season 6 two-parter “Legend”. These episodes functioned as a trial run for NCIS: Los Angeles, which spanned 14 seasons on CBS. When NCIS: Los Angeles evolved into a series, Lombard did not return. Instead, Linda Hunt’s character Hetty Lange took over the role of Operations Manager at LA’s Office of Special Projects.
Regarding the younger character of Lara Macy, Berger portrays her as a Military Police Investigator who is both ambitious and tenacious in pursuit of justice. She’s determined to establish herself and isn’t shy about questioning established norms, particularly in a male-dominated field. Lara will enter NIS’ Camp Pendleton office with the intention of exposing the truth behind Pedro Hernandez’s murder. In an effort to shield Gibbs from further harm due to the actions of the drug dealer, Franks and Lala will do their utmost to protect him. However, circumstances may compel Lara to make a difficult decision in this situation.

I’m pleased that NCIS: Origins concluded Mike Franks’ most intimate case, but the poignant twist ending leaves me apprehensive about his character.
In the latest installment of NCIS: Origins, we explored Mary Jo’s past, and it turned out to be a deeply emotional journey that I didn’t foresee being so moving.
As a movie enthusiast who’s witnessed the epic saga that is “Legend”, you’re well aware of the agonizing dilemma at hand. Lara Macy, in her wisdom, chooses to conceal the incriminating evidence linking Leroy Jethro Gibbs to Pedro Hernandez’s murder, a truth he would only discover much later in “Legend”. Tragically, this choice proved fatal for Lara, as she was brutally taken from us off-screen during NCIS Season 7. This grim turn of events was orchestrated by the vengeful progeny of Hernandez, seeking retribution against Gibbs. If you haven’t yet experienced “Legend”, I strongly suggest you remedy that with a streaming session on Paramount+.
Despite the unusual situation, I’m eager to witness the encounter between Gibbs and Lara, and discover the unique factor that led her to withhold handing him over. Was it Mike Franks and Lala Dominguez who convinced her to stay silent, or was there some other reason? And since Gibbs didn’t learn about her protection until 2009, what thoughts might he have had in 1992 when this investigation unexpectedly concluded without him facing any charges?
In a short while, we need to master those answers and more. The second season of NCIS: Origins is coming back in the fall. It’s intriguing if there’s scope in the NCIS universe for Claire Berger to be portrayed as Lara Macy at some point. I suppose we’ll simply have to wait and find out.
