As someone who has spent countless hours scrolling through YouTube, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and intrigue at the news of their new AI tools. As a content creator myself, I’ve seen the rise of deepfakes and synthetic media, and it’s been a rollercoaster ride. From Drake and The Weeknd collaborations that never happened to my own face on a cat meme, it seems like anything can happen online!
YouTube is actively working on identifying AI-produced videos uploaded to their platform, as they have recently disclosed the creation of two innovative AI tools. One of these tools is designed to recognize AI-created music, while the other focuses on detecting AI-made facial imagery
The company calls its music detection feature “artificial-vocal recognition technology,” essentially finding deepfake songs like the popular but fraudulent Drake and The Weeknd collaboration. This tool appears to be exclusive to users who have subscribed to Content ID, a service that helps copyright owners locate and control copyrighted content
The second device enables individuals spanning various sectors, including athletes and artists, to identify content created by AI that features their likenesses
YouTube indicates that it currently handles numerous billion content claim submissions annually via Content ID, a figure expected to increase as more users acquire access to advanced generative AI technology
