Zack Snyder to Direct, Co-Write LAPD Action Thriller for Netflix (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for action-packed narratives, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation upon hearing about Zack Snyder‘s new project. With his extensive resume filled with visually stunning and thematically heavy films, it’s intriguing to see him stepping into the world of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Zack Snyder is calling the cops.

Having completed his two-part science fiction epic series titled “Rebel Moon”, the filmmaker is once again collaborating with Netflix for a brand new action movie. This upcoming film, as yet unnamed, revolves around the Los Angeles Police Department.

Snyder will oversee the project as director and is teaming up with Kurt Johnstad for co-writing duties, a creative partner he’s collaborated with on films such as the 300 adaptation based on Frank Miller’s comic, the Rebel Moon series, and more.

Snyder is working together with his wife Deborah Snyder, as well as Wesley Coller, under their production company Stone Quarry.

This project marks a new departure for director Snyder, as it will steer clear of his usual characters like laser-firing rebels, cannibalistic zombies, physically demanding superheroes in capes, or gruesome Spartans. However, it’s guaranteed to deliver the same level of intensity, depth, and thrilling action that we’ve come to expect from this renowned filmmaker.

As a gamer, I’m all geared up for diving into this new action thriller, where I’ll be navigating the cutthroat landscape of life and death. It’s about an elite LAPD squad that’s pitted against the brutal clash between justice and morality, with no room for error. The specifics are under wraps for now, but I can feel the adrenaline pumping just thinking about it!

For Snyder, this upcoming project represents a return to where it all began. Over two decades ago, he was trying to move from making music videos and commercials, and his first feature film was S.W.A.T., an action movie at Sony. Interestingly, he aimed to create an R-rated movie, but the studio preferred PG-13. In the end, Snyder decided to leave the project. However, some of his ideas and concepts continued to linger in his mind.

A while back, Dan [Lin, Netflix’s head of film] and I had a chat about our mutual passion for crafting a gripping, emotional tale set against the intense, intricate, and captivating backdrop of the LAPD. This discussion has remained vivid in my memory. As you can imagine, I am thrilled to now be collaborating with Dan, along with the rest of my outstanding partners at Netflix, in shaping this narrative,” said Snyder in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be witnessing Zack Snyder direct his fourth Netflix project with the latest LAPD undertaking. Following the footsteps of “Rebel Moon,” “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver,” and “Army of the Dead,” this new project promises to keep the excitement high.

This year, Snyder transformed his pottery hobby into an exclusive agreement with the Pasta Bar in Encino, supplying plates for their Michelin-starred establishment. He is represented by both CAA and Sloane Offer.
