Back in 1983, I had the privilege of sharing the screen with two legendary actors, Zeenat Aman and Amitabh Bachchan, in the action film Pukar. The movie gained popularity, but its catchy song, Samandar Mein Naha Ke, was truly a sensation. In those days, it was all the rage! Recently, the actress reminisced about our on-screen chemistry in that ‘scorching’ number with its salt-laced lyrics. However, little did I know that after the shoot, I would be left with grains of sand in some rather ‘awkward’ spots.
Since Zeenat Aman joined social media, she’s been recounting numerous stories about her films, her fellow actors, and her rich acting career. As the heat increased, she was taken back to the moment when she filmed the “Samundar Mein Naha Ke” song in Goa alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
On her Instagram account, the veteran actress posted a video of the song and recounted her experience working with Big B during its filming. In the opening of her detailed post, she admitted that their romantic scene set to those catchy lyrics was undeniably steamy. The actress from Hare Rama Hare Krishna expressed that making the movie Pukar under the direction and production of Ramesh Behl was an enjoyable experience.
Zeenat Aman recalls filming Samundar Mein Naha Ke with Amitabh Bachchan:
Regarding the renowned song, the Bollywood starlet mentioned that it was filmed on a deserted shore and it was quite effortless for her as there was no lip-syncing required and minimal choreography to master. Essentially, she was told just to look charming. “Thus, I found myself in a captivating white ensemble, flaunting a hint of midriff, frolicking in the waves, as Mr. Bachchan danced around me like an enthusiastic peacock,” Zeenat Aman reminisced.
After revealing that she was unable to swim, the actress from Yaadon Ki Baaraat admitted that her smooth acting was challenged. This meant she had to endure gulping down a mix of anxiety and seawater during those underwater shots. Despite falling a few times in the waves and finding sand in awkward spots, she felt she convincingly portrayed a water spirit (jal pari).
At the base of the post, it was noted that this was the initial occasion where Senior Bachchan resumed filming after the near-fatal accident he experienced on the set of Coolie in 1982.
