In Zhang Hui’s world, everything seems like a dream, inspired by her personal memories from childhood. Her art is filled with the magical transience of youth, as seen in the rosy glow emanating from her subjects’ round, cherubic faces. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Art Week, Zhang’s collection of sculptures and paintings creates a calming atmosphere, inviting viewers to step into peaceful landscapes of rural life.
Zhang’s work is currently showcased at Singapore’s Yang Gallery in an exhibition titled “Finally waiting for you,” which runs until February 1st. This exhibit delves into the enchantment of childhood dreams, encouraging visitors to reminisce about their own happy recollections.
At the heart of this exhibition lies a set of bronze sculptures that turn fleeting feelings into permanent memories. The robustness of the material stands in stark contrast to the lively, romantic spirit embodied by Zhang’s figures. Titles like “Waiting for You,” “You are my poetry,” and “Sing a song” suggest a playful romance and deep emotional bond. Regardless if they are holding hands, riding bicycles, or joyfully kicking on a stool, these works of art celebrate the beauty found in life’s most delicate moments.
