The revitalization of Palworld is undeniably evident with the Tides of Terraria update, introducing fresh content that’s sparking interest and attracting players once more. One intriguing feature among many is the option to turn Zoe Rayne, a tower boss, into an official companion.
Initially, Pocketpair delivered on its commitment by providing an opportunity for individuals to join forces with the leader of the Rayne Syndicate and her powerful Grizzbolt companion. Yet, it turns out that this partnership isn’t as beneficial as one might expect, since partnering with Zoe and her associate doesn’t provide significant advantages when considering all the tasks required to secure them.
It might seem straightforward that after overpowering the formidable tower guardian, all you’d need to do is chat with her and have her sign up for your squad. However, it turns out that conversation alone isn’t enough; a full-fledged quest chain is necessary before she can become an ally of yours.
The process involves players performing several tasks, which seem excessively unnecessary, given that they need to traverse various sections of the Palworld map unnecessarily. One of these tasks includes the capture of a Grizzbolt, a creature that Zoe will offer once she becomes part of your team. This recruitment objective then appears meaningless since you’ll obtain the Grizzbolt regardless.
From my perspective as an ardent gamer, I must admit that the quest’s outcome was somewhat underwhelming. The excitement of obtaining the Grizzbolt after completion felt deflated when I realized it was no different from those I could capture in the wild. It seemed like the developer missed a trick there.
To soften the blow, they introduced the opportunity to capture and battle alongside Zoe, but even this failed to live up to expectations. While she does have some unique animations, her contribution overall is minimal at best.
Many players of Palworld have been eagerly waiting to catch one of its bosses for quite some time now. It’s disappointing that this feature falls short of expectations at present. However, Pocketpair still has an opportunity to enhance it with a future update. If they do, one potential area for significant improvement is the tower companion after acquisition.
Zoe and her companion Grizzbolt, in their current state, don’t stand out much, but they could certainly become more appealing. If they were equipped with unique abilities or if they were significantly stronger than typical companions, it would make the effort required to complete the questline far more rewarding. Alternatively, Pocketpair could shorten the quest to obtain the tower boss, making it less of a chore and allowing players to savor the reward sooner.

The goal is to excite players about collaborating with Palworld’s human leaders, but working with Zoe Rayne shows that this feature requires significant refinement. Pocketpair still has the opportunity to enhance it in an upcoming patch, and it would be wise for them to do so as it could significantly boost player engagement and attract more people to the game.
