Happy Valentine’s Day, folks! The sun is shining, love is in the air, and Cynthia from Philly just slid into your DMs. Could it be fate? Not so fast, says the FBI, because your potential soulmate might just be a crypto scammer in disguise. 🚨
Just in time for February 14, the FBI is here to rain on your love parade with a warning about crypto scammers looking to swipe right on your wallet. According to the FBI, V-Day has become the prime time for scammers to wine and dine their victims before asking for their life savings. 🍷💸
The FBI Philadelphia is like that friend who tells you your date is a total loser. They’re advising everyone to be extra suspicious of social media requests during the most romantic week of the year. It’s not love; it’s a new kind of “romance scamming” that’s all the rage. 💔
“Looking for love in all the wrong places? Watch out! Scammers are posing as your dream date, tricking you into sending money or personal info. They’ll wine you, dine you, and then steal your Bitcoin,” says the FBI, ever the buzzkill.
These scammers are like the worst kind of exes – they’ll build up your trust, then ghost you after they’ve drained your crypto accounts. They’ll lead you to fake websites that look like the real deal, making you think you’re getting rich off your investments. 🤑😴
“Once you’ve invested your hard-earned crypto, these scammers will give you the old ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ routine. They’ll claim you need to pay extra fees to withdraw your ‘profits’ and then disappear like a ghost in the night,” adds the FBI, probably while eating a donut.
To avoid getting your heart (and wallet) broken, the FBI suggests sticking to reputable dating sites and not sharing your personal info with strangers. And if someone asks you to invest in their crypto “opportunity,” run for the hills. 🏃♀️🏔️
