🚨 You Won’t Believe What North Korea Did Before the $1.4B Crypto Heist! 🚨

So, apparently, those North Korean hackers decided to play it cool for a while in2024. I guess they were just chilling, maybe binge-watching some K-dramas, while secretly plotting the biggest crypto heist ever. Classic move. 😎

On Feb.21, the crypto world had a collective “Oh no, not again!” moment when Bybit got hit with a $1.4 billion hack by the notorious Lazarus Group. Turns out, these guys were prepping for months like it was the crypto Olympics. 🏅

According to the blockchain sleuths at Chainalysis, North Korean cyber shenanigans took a nosedive after July1,2024. This sudden drop in hacking activities was more suspicious than a villain twirling their mustache. 🕵️‍♂️

Eric Jardine, the Sherlock Holmes of cybercrimes at Chainalysis, was all like, “Guys, this is not normal.” He pointed out how the slowdown coincided with some geopolitical drama involving Russia and DPRK. You know, the kind of stuff that makes you go, “Hmm, what are they up to?” 🤔

Jardine dropped this bomb during a CryptoMoon interview: “Maybe they were just reallocating their hacking genius to other, uh, ‘projects’.” And then, boom, the Bybit hack happened. Coincidence? I think not. 🕵️‍♀️

“The slowdown that we observed could have been a regrouping to select new targets, probe infrastructure, or it could have been linked to those geopolitical events,” he added.

In just10 days, the Lazarus Group laundered every last penny through THORChain. Because why use a regular bank when you can use a blockchain, am I right? 😂

Fortunately, not all hope is lost. The crypto detectives are on the case, and as of March20, they’ve got eyes on over80% of the stolen funds. Fingers crossed they can freeze it before the hackers buy their own private island. 🏝️

How the World’s Biggest Crypto Hack Went Down 🕵️‍♂️💻

The Bybit hack is a stark reminder: no fortress is impregnable. Even with security tighter than a drum, hackers found a way in. It’s like they took a page from the Ocean’s Eleven playbook. 🎬

Meir Dolev, the brains behind Cyvers, compared this hack to the WazirX and Radiant Capital incidents. The hackers pulled off the old switcheroo with a deceptive transaction, fooling signers into a trap. And just like that, poof! The ETH vanished. 🪄

2024 was a banner year for North Korean hackers, raking in over $1.34 billion in crypto across47 heists. That’s a102% spike from2023. They were basically the crypto world’s answer to Robin Hood, if Robin Hood were, you know, a cybercriminal. 🏹💰

This accounted for a whopping61% of all crypto thefts in2024. So, if you’re in the crypto game, watch your back. Or better yet, hire a digital bodyguard. 😅
