As a long-time Marvel enthusiast and someone who has seen more than their fair share of superhero movies, I must say that the potential cast for Spider-Man 4 is truly astounding. Among these possibilities, Shang-Chi stands out as an exceptional choice.
Three years following the record-breaking and astonishing success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have at last disclosed plans for a fourth unnamed Spider-Man film, currently referred to as “Spider-Man 4” by enthusiasts (avoiding confusion with Sam Raimi’s abandoned “Spider-Man 4”). The movie will premiere in theaters on July 24, 2026, marking the longest period between Spider-Man appearances since he entered the MCU in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War”.
Although details about the fourth film remain scarce, its placement between “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” certainly sparks curiosity. One point that fans agree on is that another hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will be present. Following the agreement between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios allowing Spider-Man to appear in MCU films produced by Disney, it was also stipulated that Sony Pictures could include MCU characters in their Spider-Man productions. This collaboration has been evident in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” with Iron Man’s appearance and a brief cameo from Captain America, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” featuring Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Talos, and Soren, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” showcasing Doctor Strange and Wong.
With that in mind, here are the MCU characters that should (and might) appear in Spider-Man 4.
10 The Fantastic Four
Just as it took some time for Spider-Man to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut, the arrival of The Fantastic Four has been eagerly anticipated by fans since Disney acquired the rights to the characters in 2019. I’ve always been a fan of the rich history between the dynamic duo, the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, in the comic book world. As far back as 1963, in the very first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, we saw Peter Parker attempting to join forces with the Fantastic Four. Over the years, these superheroes have come together on numerous occasions, and I’ve personally witnessed Peter Parker forging a deep bond with Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch.
Following the rebranding of the Fantastic Four as the Future Foundation after Johnny Storm’s demise, Peter Parker decided to join their ranks as a tribute to his departed friend. However, the upcoming film for the Fantastic Four is set in an alternate timeline, making it uncertain when or where Spider-Man 4 will unfold. At this juncture within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it seems challenging to predict a meeting between Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.
9 Deadpool
One of the main challenges in producing Spider-Man 4 is finding a way to surpass the lofty expectations and box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. If there’s no standout feature, it may seem like a letdown compared to its predecessor, even if it still rakes in $1 billion at the box office. Interestingly, this is the same predicament that Deadpool finds itself in post-Deadpool & Wolverine. They’re both wondering what they can do for their next film after seemingly revealing all their cards and making more money than any movie could realistically top. Perhaps we could address these issues simultaneously by teaming up Spider-Man and Deadpool!
Funny Business
Deadpool and Wolverine may have been the long-awaited duo, but Deadpool with Spider-Man isn’t far behind as a fan favorite. In many ways, Spider-Man is known for his humorous antics, yet when paired with Deadpool, he takes on a more serious role, creating an entertaining dynamic. Deadpool first appeared in Earth 10005 alongside Wolverine, but this doesn’t mean he can’t team up with Spider-Man in the MCU for a crossover event. The combination of Deadpool and Spider-Man is a surefire way to attract audiences and offers numerous comedic possibilities.
8 The Punisher
Initially, The Punisher might appear an unlikely companion for Spider-Man. However, it was in “The Amazing Spider-Man” issue 129 (1974) that Frank Castle first made his Marvel Comics debut. Given his renown as a major Marvel character, The Punisher is bound to pique the interest of a wide audience. Interestingly, Tom Holland and Punisher actor Jon Bernthal have previously shared screen time in the 2017 film “Pilgrimage.” With these two talented actors having a past collaboration and The Punisher’s initial introduction in a Spider-Man narrative, it seems fitting that their paths could intersect within the MCU.
The Punisher Can Solve the Kraven Problem
Including the Punisher could potentially fill the gap left by Kraven the Hunter in the standalone Sony Spider-Man films, as it appears that characters with their own movies are typically excluded from appearing in the MCU’s Spider-Man films.

7 She-Hulk
In the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Peter Parker was already represented by Matt Murdock. However, imagine if his superhero persona required legal assistance too? This seems unusual given that among the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters, she appears to be the most adaptable to play a supporting role in future projects. She and Spider-Man share a comedic flair, creating a ripe opportunity for engaging dialogue between them.
A Key Writer Has Shaped Both Characters
As a passionate comics enthusiast, I’ve always found an intriguing connection between Spider-Man and She-Hulk that stems from the writing of Dan Slott. In the early 2000s, Slott penned 21 issues of She-Hulk, including a notable one where Jennifer Walters stood in for Spider-Man in court back in issue #4 (2004-2005). This encounter served as a sort of trial run for Slott’s subsequent tenure on various Spider-Man titles from 2010 to 2018, which brought about groundbreaking storylines like Doctor Octopus taking over Peter Parker’s body and transforming into the Superior Spider-Man, as well as developing the sprawling concept of the Spider-Verse. Though they might seem quite dissimilar at first glance, these two characters share a unique bond, being both creations of the same talented writer.
6 Ms. Marvel
The union between Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel could symbolically represent a powerful partnership. Iman Vellani has brought Ms. Marvel to life as a beloved character within the MCU, and fans are eager to witness her dynamic with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, given that their characters share a common ground of admiring superheroes. The potential for amusing exchanges between these two youthful heroes is immense!
5 Captain Marvel
The potential appearance of Captain Marvel in Spider-Man 4 could be due to the fact that actress Brie Larson has starred in all of director Destin Daniel Cretton’s films, from Short Term 12 to The Glass Castle and Just Mercy.
Since Brie Larson has taken on the role of an MCU superhero, director Cretton incorporated her into a post-credit scene for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” maintaining their pattern of collaboration. Introducing Captain Marvel into Spider-Man 4 might be effortlessly done through a quick conversation between Carol Danvers and Peter Parker about the enigmatic black symbiote that was left behind at the bar at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, as she has previously dealt with such entities during her cosmic travels. Captain Marvel’s interaction with Peter Parker in Avengers: Endgame was limited, but they have a rich history together in the comics and even had a brief romance at one time.
4 Jessica Jones
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about Marvel Studios reviving Daredevil, Kingpin, and The Punisher. It seems only natural that they would consider reintroducing other characters from the Defenders team next, and based on fan consensus, Jessica Jones appears to be at the top of the list. Krysten Ritter brilliantly portrayed Jessica Jones across three seasons from 2015 to 2019, including the miniseries The Defenders. Her character, a tough-as-nails detective with a penchant for alcohol and a short fuse, provides an intriguing contrast to the more light-hearted, optimistic persona of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man Needs a Detective Ally

Since Charlie Cox resumed his portrayal of Matt Murdock as Peter Parker’s lawyer in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” fans have eagerly anticipated a joint appearance of their characters, Daredevil and Spider-Man. Given that Daredevil has been established as a key character within the MCU, appearing in 2022’s “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” 2024’s “Echo,” and set to reappear in “Daredevil: Born Again” (a continuation of his Netflix series), and with plans to voice Matt Murdock in the animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” it appears that the connection between the Man Without Fear and the Webhead will only grow stronger.

As a diehard Marvel fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as the formidable Kingpin. He made his comeback in the action-packed series, Hawkeye, before becoming the central antagonist in Echo. The mid-credit scene of Echo hinted at Wilson Fisk’s ambitious plan to run for mayor of New York City. This intriguing development seems to be a significant plot point in the upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again.
If The Kingpin is given power, he might target vigilantes such as Spider-Man, who is New York’s most prominent superhero. This would potentially place Spider-Man in a dangerous situation. Moreover, The Kingpin could hire multiple supervillains and pose such a significant threat that other New York City heroes like Daredevil and Jessica Jones might join forces to take him down. In this way, The Kingpin could serve as the main catalyst for many interconnected storylines in Spider-Man 4.
1 Shang-Chi
After making a strong debut in the MCU post Avengers: Endgame, Shang-Chi has been noticeably absent from other films and TV shows since his initial release. However, fans will get a glimpse of him again as a variant character in the animated series What If…?. This appearance marks three years since his first film. Although there’s no confirmed release date for Shang-Chi 2 , it might take up to five years from his debut film until another appearance, leaving fans eagerly waiting. To keep Shang-Chi in the spotlight, Marvel Studios could consider including him in an upcoming movie like Spider-Man 4.
Shang-Chi Is an Obvious Pick
It seems particularly fitting for Shang-Chi to potentially star in “Spider-Man 4,” given a few compelling factors.
