At The Game Awards in 2024, it was when the formal unveiling of Elden Ring Nightreign occurred that fans found themselves taken aback by hints of bosses not originally from Elden Ring appearing to be teased for the upcoming cooperative game. Eagle-eyed fans immediately recognized figures that resembled The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3 and The Duke’s Dear Freja from Dark Souls 2. With developer FromSoft possibly revisiting their past creations for Nightreign , there are numerous bosses we’d be thrilled to see resurface due to a variety of reasons.
Here are the 10 Soulborne bosses we want to come back in Elden Ring Nightreign:
Twin Dragonriders, Dark Souls 2
In simpler terms, we initially found the Twin Dragonriders quite irritating when we encountered them in Dark Souls 2. But once you understand their trick, they’re not particularly challenging. However, it would be delightful to swiftly defeat them with some friends in Nightreign, a sort of sweet retribution for our initial frustration.
Starscourge Radahn, Elden Ring
Engaging with the Radahn boss battle in Elden Ring is nothing short of breathtaking, as it towers over you with an impressive setup. The ability to summon multiple allies makes it reminiscent of a massively multiplayer online game’s raid. If FromSoftware were to amplify its scale further and transform it into an actual Nightreign raid, fans would undoubtedly embrace it enthusiastically.
Sister Friede, Dark Souls 3
Sister Friede is one of the challenging battles in the Soulsborne series. A glance at fan discussion boards will reveal numerous players who had to pause their progress in Dark Souls III due to repeatedly getting defeated by her scythe. Moreover, Father Ariandel enters the fray during the second phase. Even after you’ve depleted her combined health bars, the battle is far from over. Having teammates for this drawn-out conflict can significantly ease the difficulty.
Maneaters, Demon’s Souls
Imagining a scenario where we’d team up with three companions and hunt for one or two Maneaters from Demon’s Souls on a narrow bridge seems like an entertaining idea, albeit something to be used sparingly within Nightreign. While the main boss isn’t overly challenging, the bridge itself is known for its difficulty in this game.
Orphan of Kos, Bloodborne
The Orphan of Kos from Bloodborne is known for his rapid-fire, combo-based attacks. As the final boss in the game’s DLC, he’s typically the last challenge players will face. If the developers at FromSoftware increase his health and introduce some new moves, he could prove to be a tough adversary indeed.
Ornstein and Smough, Dark Souls
In the Dark Souls series, Ornstein and Smough stand out as particularly formidable adversaries. Unlike some other bosses in the game, they’re essential if you want to complete Dark Souls; you simply can’t avoid them. Moreover, their 1v2 battle is one of the most memorable encounters in the entire Soulsborne universe. Subsequent fights like those against the Godskin Duo and others have been influenced by this original encounter, but Ornstein and Smough were the pioneers for these types of battles.
Fume Knight, Dark Souls 2
In the early days of Dark Souls 2, FromSoftware shared data showing that Fume Knight won close to 93% of its battles, making it one of the toughest fights in the series at that time. Although he may not be as challenging compared to current battles, it would be exciting for Nightreign to recognize this historical difficulty and offer fans a more powerful version of Fume Knight.
Demon of Hatred, Sekiro
Fighting Sekiro was always challenging due to its unique mechanics distinct from other FromSoftware games. However, the Demon of Hatred feels reminiscent of classic Dark Souls battles, making it easier for players to adapt. The encounters with the Guardian Ape and Isshin might stand out more, but defeating the Demon of Hatred is arguably the most accessible in terms of transition from one game to another.
Ludwig, The Accursed/Holy Blade, Bloodborne
Similar to the Orphan of Kos and many other bosses from Bloodborne, Ludwig exhibits an incredibly aggressive demeanor. His size is truly imposing. It would be fascinating if FromSoftware were to incorporate Bloodborne bosses, as Ludwig would undoubtedly make a formidable field boss in Nightreign.
Darkeater Midir, Dark Souls 3
In a related vein, Darkeater Midir aligns perfectly with the dragon fights in Elden Ring. Moreover, the NPC you can call upon in Dark Souls 3 actually increases the challenge because of his response to ranged attacks. Fortunately, you and your comrades can rotate taking on Midir to potentially reduce the toughness of one of DS3’s mightiest adversaries.
