The animated adaptation by Science Saru of ‘s manga is doing a fantastic job in bringing the story to life. The action sequences are top-notch, and they beautifully convey the romance between Okarun and Momo. However, the anime has only covered content up to chapter 33 as of now. Given that there’s over a hundred more chapters yet to be adapted, fans can expect many exciting revelations in the upcoming episodes.
Currently, the anime hasn’t completed adapting the Cursed House storyline yet. The finale of its first season ended in suspense, as Momo was attacked at a hot spring. During this time, Okarun and Jiji discovered a room containing an unsettling amount of talismans to keep spirits away. When Season 2 airs, it will resume where Season 1 concluded, offering additional surprises that will have fans on the edge of their seats.
Momo Gets Smaller At the End of Dandadan’s Danmura Arc
In the anime titled “Dandadan“, Momo Ayase’s psychic abilities are essential for battling supernatural entities like spirits and aliens. When teamed with Okarun’s powers granted by Turbo Granny, they can tackle anything if they collaborate effectively. However, it’s not just her newfound powers that Momo needs to adapt to; a tough fight against Unji causes Momo to shrink dramatically, reducing her size so much that she now fits comfortably in Turbo Granny’s paws.
In the ongoing manga storyline, it’s surprising for both characters and readers that Momo has shrunk in size. This change seems permanent, as Momo and Okarun are working to restore her original size. Despite her smaller stature, Momo’s psychic abilities remain powerful against supernatural threats. Let’s hope the anime steers clear of focusing too much on Momo or its female characters going forward.
Jiji is Taken Over by the Yokai Possessing his Family’s House
Throughout the Cursed House Saga, Jiji seeks aid from Momo and Okarun to purge the malevolent Yokai known as the Evil Eye from his household. Heartbreakingly, the Tsuchinoko family exploits Jiji, instigating the Evil Eye’s catastrophic powers upon the world, deceiving the teenager into surrendering control of his body to the yokai. Once possessed, the Evil Eye reaffirms its intent to annihilate all humankind.
Okarun and the malevolent entity known as the Evil Eye will soon clash in an exhilarating battle. Initially, Okarun seems overpowered, but when the Evil Eye threatens to harm Momo, Okarun retaliates with fury. Later, the defeated Evil Eye is subdued within Jiji’s body. Though this isn’t the last we see of the yokai, it provides a powerful demonstration of its destructive potential. It promises an exciting transformation to witness how the fights between Okarun and the Evil Eye are brought to life in 2D animation.
Evil Eye Adjusts to Jiji’s Body & Reveals More of Its Innocent Side
Following the Cursed House arc and the Evil Eye arc, the narrative shifts towards Jiji struggling to manage the menacing spirits residing within him. Despite his volatile disposition, Jiji endeavors to make friends with the Yokai, although this proves challenging. Momo, Okarun, Seiko, and Aira unite in an effort to curb Evil Eye’s outbreaks. Ultimately, it appears that only a rematch against Okarun can effectively subdue Evil Eye.
Following some guidance from Turbo Granny, Evil Eye enters another extraordinary skirmish with Okarun. In this encounter, Okarun manages to hold his ground against Evil Eye’s aggressive assaults and even repels him using his All Out attack. Convinced by Okarun, the yokai decides to focus solely on human-free targets, enabling weekly battles. Despite the challenges, Evil Eye eventually proves beneficial as an ally for Jiji, Momo, and Okarun moving forward.
The Ayase Household is Turned Into a Robotic Buddha to Fight a Kaiju
From my vantage point, in the Kaiju arc narrative, Momo and Okarun find themselves grappling with an enormous monster, intricately linked to a baffling apartment building. Fortunately, their classmate, Kinta Sakata, offers them a viable solution. Leveraging his expertise on giant monsters and mecha, Kinta orchestrates the transformation of the Ayane Household into a colossal mechanical Buddha, ready to engage in combat with the towering Kaiju. Throughout this series, spectators have witnessed numerous wild battles. Few could have anticipated that the primary confrontation would pay tribute to an iconic battle scene.
One fun interaction in the comic book involves the fight scene itself. Okarun is humorously thrown out of the robot after Momo recklessly presses various buttons, attempting to engage the giant monster, Kaiju. Stepping into the role once more, Kinta skillfully pilots the mecha, managing its movements and keeping the Kaiju at bay. In the end, with the assistance of Momo and Aira, the mecha successfully eliminates the Kaiju in a spectacular explosion.
(This version aims to make the text more engaging and easier to understand while retaining the original meaning.)
Sanjome Is Far More Powerful Than He Lets On
At Momo and Okarun’s school, an ordinary teacher named Sanjome, more famously known as Count Saint-Germain, was actually a clandestine collector of paranormal artifacts. Unbeknownst to them, this teacher shared their fascination with the supernatural and the elusive Dandadan. Much like Momo and Okarun, Sanjome harbored a keen interest in the mysterious and possessed exceptional swordsmanship, using it to combat any monstrous obstacles he encountered.
In the confrontation with the Fairy-Tale card, Sanjome demonstrates his extraordinary abilities. Even though he’s blind, Sanjome manages to ward off the yokai. Yet, there’s much more to Sanjome than what appears on the surface. The ongoing storyline in Dandadan finds Sanjome collaborating with the Kur, revealing some questionable aspects of his personality. There are still many secrets about Sanjome waiting to be discovered, but it’s apparent that he plays a crucial role in the narrative.
Bamora Wishes to Make Okarun a Suitable Husband for Her
In her debut during the Kaiju storyline, Bamora resides within a high-rise building. A golden orb linked to her exosuit captivates Momo and Okarun, who think it might be one of Okarun’s precious Kintamas. Engaging Bamora in combat while she’s hidden, the duo becomes engrossed in battling the colossal Kaiju wreaking havoc across the city, eventually abandoning their pursuit of Bamora. Later in the arc, Okarun overpowers Bamora. Following this encounter, Bamora forms a bond with Okarun and hastens to Ayase’s residence.
In “The Space Globalists Arc,” fans can learn more about Bamora’s background as she is revealed to be a Sumerian – an endangered alien race that came close to extinction at the hands of the Kur. When the Kur threatens Earth with invasion, Bamora joins forces with Momo, Okarun, and their companions in a brave struggle against the invaders. After successfully fending off the Kur attacks, Bamora establishes herself as a trusted friend and ally to Momo and Okarun.
The Hostile Aliens Raise the Stakes of the Story
In this sci-fi storyline known as Space Globalists, the primary adversaries are the Kur – a formidable alien faction. Unlike their predecessors, the Kur are a well-structured military force comprising colossal spaceships and exosuits for power. The threat they pose to the world is unprecedented, surpassing anything that Momo, Okarun’s companions, and kin have ever faced. What makes them particularly dangerous is each of their members possesses some of the deadliest abilities found in the comic book series.
As a fervent admirer of the Ta Kowasa Kur, I can tell you that these beings have an extraordinary ability – they can swiftly rejuvenate their energy by tapping into the vitality of other living organisms. The Imotako Kur is equally formidable, possessing the power to pass through objects and extend limbs to attack from a distance, making it a menacing adversary indeed. While Momo, Okarun, and their allies valiantly hold off the invaders, we must never underestimate their strength and numbers.
The Yokai is the Main Antagonist of the Danmara Arc
Throughout our anime and manga journey, Momo and Okarun have faced some extraordinary adversaries that tested their limits in unprecedented ways. Early on, Turbo Granny and the Serpo Aliens were formidable foes, but nothing could’ve prepared us for the battle against the Fairy-Tale Card. This yokai, a chilling amalgamation of cards, is unlike anything we’ve ever encountered – its face, ears, mouth, and nose are all made up of cards! It was a truly unnerving experience going head to head with this card-based monster.
The Fairy-Tale Card isn’t just a weak opponent; its powers vary based on the card it wields. Its face card can control the thoughts of its adversaries, while both mouth and eye cards can eliminate those same body parts from anyone who dares to challenge it. The Fairy-Tale Card is an exceptionally unusual Yokai that Okarun and Momo have come across thus far, indicating just how extraordinary it truly is.
The Strange Ally of Momo & Okarun Goes by Mr. Mantis Shrimp for the Rest of the Series
In the anime, the Dover Demon is a secondary villain often recognized by viewers. This extraterrestrial was compelled to work for Serpo due to financial needs, specifically to cover his son’s medical expenses from a blood transfusion. After being healed by Momo, Okarun, and Seiko, the Dover Demon later aids the Ayase family against various supernatural threats. What may surprise anime fans is the uncommon moniker that continues to follow the alien throughout the rest of the narrative.
At the conclusion of the Cursed House saga, the Dover Demon and his offspring Chiquitita receive an invitation from the Ayase household for an evening meal. It’s during this gathering that the Dover Demon discloses his genuine name to Momo: Peeny-Weeny. However, Momo feels unsatisfied by this response and decides to call him Mr. Mantis Shrimp instead. This nickname is accepted by her friends, and for the remainder of the tale, the Dover Demon is known as Mr. Mantis Shrimp.
The Class Representative Is Revealed to Have Her Own Set of Powers
In their school at Okarun, it’s newly introduced student Rin Sawaki who jumps into the mix of the supernatural exorcisms led by Momo. As it turns out, the class rep of Class C, has a past with Mai Kawabanga, a spirit once close to Rin. In their youth, they both aspired to be idols, but Rin’s family responsibilities, particularly taking care of her bedridden grandmother, caused them to grow apart. The reunion between the two comes about when Mai’s spirit is purified and transforms into a protective spirit for Rin, floating by her side from then on.
In the story, Momo and Okarun gain indispensable partners in Rin and Mai. When these two combine, Rin gains an ability to control gravity, a power that can only be activated when she sings. During the Danmura arc, they utilize this unique skill to rescue the individuals trapped by the Fairy-Tale Card, returning them to reality. It promises to be thrilling as we anticipate how the anime will portray the touching reunion of these remarkable pair.
