As a connoisseur of the macabre and a dedicated viewer of American Horror Story for years, I must say that each season has left me with a newfound appreciation for the darker side of humanity – or perhaps inhumanity would be more accurate. The moments I’ve mentioned here have truly been unforgettable, each one etching its disturbing image into my psyche.
For quite some time now, I’ve been a fan of “American Horror Story”. The newest season has been announced as part of the 2024 TV lineup, but unlike some previous seasons, it wasn’t exceptionally gruesome. Yet, it was still entertaining to watch. If you’re like me and have been following this series since its debut, we both understand that the shock factor of “American Horror Story” is boundless.
Honestly, I’m the type who really cherishes the top-notch horror films and TV shows available. However, this particular series manages to surprise even me, someone who has been exposed to a lot of brutal violence throughout my life. And guess what? Today, it’s going to give you a good fright as well – yay!
The Blood As Moisturizer (AHS: Coven)
Without a doubt, I’ve always felt that “American Horror Story: Coven” is hands-down the superior season of “American Horror Story.” As a devotee of Harry Potter and someone who can’t help but geek out over anything related to witches, I found myself in my element during the third season when it delved into witchcraft.
Indeed, it has instances that are downright unsettling, with the disturbance beginning from Delphine LaLaurie, portrayed by Kathy Bates. She employs the sacrifices of her African-American slaves and their blood for a macabre purpose: as a beauty treatment to maintain her skin’s youthfulness and radiance. It’s a chilling thought, isn’t it? This practice is rooted in superstition and is nothing short of horrifying in every conceivable way.
Nail Gun To The Head (AHS: Cult)
It seems I may have unconsciously skipped watching “American Horror Story: Cult” due to the turbulent period in American history when it was released. However, upon re-watching it now, I must admit that this season is quite disturbing. Here’s a particularly unsettling scene for you.
Members of the cult are put to the test regarding their loyalty when they’re compelled to fire a nail gun at R.J., however, shockingly, multiple nails are needed to fatally injure someone. Consequently, we end up spending an extended period watching someone being repeatedly nailed in the head. Holy cow, merely contemplating it makes me queasy.
That Demon In The AHS: Hotel Premiere (AHS: Hotel)
Hey there! I’m totally down with everyone living their lives as they choose, but the scene from “American Horror Story: Hotel” was just… over the line for me. When a drug addict uses in the hotel, this grotesque, demon-like figure emerges and proceeds to violate him in a most disturbing way – with a dildo that’s electrically charged, resembling a drill. It left me feeling really uncomfortable.
Frankly, American Horror Story hasn’t been as impressive for quite some time now, and I’d prefer not to dwell on it any further.
When Lana Gives Herself An Abortion (AHS: Asylum)
Speaking about Sarah Paulson’s most remarkable characters in American Horror Story, Lana is one of her finest portrayals. During her time at Briarcliff, Lana experiences assault and becomes pregnant as a result. This occurs in the ’60s, a period when she’s already confined, and the man responsible for the attack seems to be one of the most despicable individuals alive. Faced with few options, she feels compelled to make difficult decisions.
In such dire circumstances, she resorts to extreme actions, utilizing a coat hanger as an improvised method for terminating her pregnancy, as assistance was nowhere to be found. The situation is distressing and hard to witness, and the knowledge that it occurred due to a lack of necessary resources makes it even more heart-wrenching.
Maggie Getting Cut In Half (AHS: Freak Show)
Emma Roberts has played multiple seasons of the television series American Horror Story, and one of her most memorable roles was that of Maggie in AHS: Freak Show. In this production, Maggie portrays a character pretending to be a fortuneteller and becomes immersed within this unique setting.
She winds up becoming a volunteer for a magic trick that turns bloody after she is sawed in half, but at that point, no one helps her because she has already tricked a lot of the freaks at the freak show. It’s still a gory and disgusting scene that was probably one of the most creepy so far.
Violet Discovers Her Death (AHS: Murder House)
In contrast to many subsequent seasons, the initial season of “American Horror Story,” or as it’s also known, “Murder House,” seems less intense. However, nothing was mild about Violet discovering her own lifeless body.
What struck me most was the unexpected manner in which it was presented: none of us had realized she was deceased until that instant, and the revelation unfolded so swiftly. And when we finally beheld her lifeless body, enveloped in spiderwebs and crawling with insects and other unsavory elements, it was indeed an unsettling sight that made one’s skin crawl and led me to question my desire to continue watching the series. However, I find myself compelled to carry on.
Elsa’s Legs Are Cut (AHS: Freak Show)
In a different phrasing: “American Horror Story: Freak Show” is quite disturbing overall, yet I must admit that the character of Elsa was exceptionally intriguing due to her captivating past. She wasn’t just a dominatrix, but also portrayed a deeply emotional side – one that showed she had lost both her legs in a graphic and violent film.
It’s a horrible moment that makes you feel bad for the woman, but it also made me truly question what the heck I was watching because it was so horrible.
Xavier Gets Roasted (AHS: 1984)
Ah, there’s nothing quite like witnessing a grisly spectacle reminiscent of classic slasher flicks, such as the one depicted in “American Horror Story: 1984,” when poor Xavier met his end in that oven – it was certainly a gruesome sight.
You might assume the program can’t become any gorier, yet it manages to, which is making me cringe just contemplating the consequences. Ugh!
The Guinea Pig’s Death (AHS: Cult)
I’d rather not delve too deeply into this topic as it might stir some strong emotions within me, but let me share an intriguing scene from “American Horror Story: Cult”. Here, a delightful and unsuspecting guinea pig is found in a house, only to later discover its fate is a tragic one – someone cruelly places the poor creature into a microwave.
And they microwave it. And it explodes.
The sound…
Absolutely, I’m still not completely over it, and I sincerely wish you never have to go through something like this.
The Minotaur Sex (AHS: Coven)
In the series American Horror Story: Coven, there are captivating characters who become entwined in extraordinary and peculiar plotlines. Among these, one such storyline involves Gabourey Sidibe’s character, Queenie, engaging in an intimate encounter with a minotaur.
Indeed, as you can see, things escalate rather swiftly, leaving me wondering aloud to my mother, “Is it acceptable for this to be on television?” Even now, I’m uncertain, but we find ourselves in this situation.
In a similar vein, there are numerous instances that come to mind, yet these particular ones continue to astound me even now. Perhaps the upcoming season of “American Horror Story” will discover innovative ways to unsettle me further.
