11 MCU Shows and Movies to Rewatch Before Agatha All Along

11 MCU Shows and Movies to Rewatch Before Agatha All Along

As a long-time fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I must say that Wanda Maximoff’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. From her humble beginnings as a pawn in Ultron’s scheme to becoming one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Wanda’s character development is nothing short of captivating.

In the forthcoming dark fantasy series titled “Agatha All Along“, we find ourselves delving deeper into the character of Agatha Harkness from “WandaVision“. Initially posing as Wanda Maximoff’s eccentric neighbor, Agatha appeared to be stuck in that role following her infiltration into Wanda’s alternate reality. However, it appears that Agatha will break free and strive to regain her lost powers. She will receive assistance from a mysterious young sidekick and unofficial familiar, Billy Kaplan, who had a counterpart in the “WandaVision” miniseries.

As someone who has been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for quite some time now, I can confidently recommend several shows that will help prepare viewers for Agatha Harkness’ upcoming solo show. These productions feature characters expected to appear in Agatha’s show or have a past connection with her and Billy.

As a fan eagerly anticipating the release of “Agatha All Along” in September, here’s a list I’ve compiled of 12 Marvel Cinematic Universe shows and movies that you might want to catch up on to fully immerse yourself in the storyline.

11 WandaVision (2021)

As a die-hard film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about the sequel to the captivating miniseries, “WandaVision.” This mind-bending tale presents an alternate reality where Scarlet Witch and Vision are married with children, living in tranquil Westview, New Jersey. What makes this world intriguing is that their peaceful life seems to morph into various classic sitcom settings. However, the real twist comes when Wanda uncovers the shocking truth – she’s not the only witch in town!

“And I Killed Sparky, Too…”

To clarify, Agatha, who had been pretending to be the curious neighbor “Agnes,” first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe via this series. Notably, the title Agatha All Along stems from a popular tune within the show that unmasks her real persona. Furthermore, several actors from the hit series WandaVision are set to make appearances in this series, including Debra Jo Rupp and Emma Caulfield Ford, with some of them reprising their characters.

10 Doctor Strange (2016)

In his self-titled superhero film, Doctor Strange encounters the character who shares his name. The movie narrates how Doctor Stephen Strange’s life takes an unexpected turn following a car accident that leaves him with crippled hands. Desperate to find a cure, he agrees to aid the Ancient One and subsequently becomes embroiled in a mystical conflict, offering his assistance in return for healing.

The Impossibilities Are Endless

Doctor Strange tells the story of Marvel’s Master of the Mystic Arts, giving attention to some of their more magic characters. This also includes the Ancient One, whose rule is split between the character and Master Hamir, who resembles the character in the original comics. Similarly, Agatha All Along is set to feature some of Marvel’s magic-wielding characters, besides the title character, such as the sorceress Jennifer Kale.

9 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

The movie titled “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is the follow-up to “Doctor Strange“. In this storyline, Stephen Strange encounters a perilous situation involving Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. She’s struggling with the grief over her lost children and yearns for their reunion. This emotional turmoil has led her to become tainted by an ancient book of dark magic called the Darkhold. The task falls on Doctor Strange to safeguard America Chavez, a young girl who possesses the ability to create gateways across various universes.

“You Break the Rules and Become the Hero. I Do It, I Become the Enemy.”

Significantly, akin to the series “Agatha All Along”, this movie functions as a continuation of “WandaVision”, focusing squarely on the consequences of Wanda’s grief over losing her children. Additionally, a parallel can be drawn with the protagonist forming an alliance with a teenager in the storyline. It’s intriguing to note that Wanda transitions from the lead character in her show to the villain in this film, while Agatha shifts from being the antagonist to the main character instead.

8 Werewolf by Night (2022)

Marvel is home to an array of supernatural beings, including witches, but they also have their own werewolf character – Jack Russell, who was featured in a series titled “Werewolf by Night” based on his alternate persona. Following the demise of renowned monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone, his widow organizes a hunt among five other monster hunters to decide his replacement, and Ulysses’ daughter Elsa takes part in this competition as well.

A Disney+ Halloween Special

While pursuing his hunt, Russell stumbles upon Ted, a swamp creature previously captured and surprisingly an old friend of his. Later, he strikes a bargain with Elsa to release Ted, requiring the Bloodstone – essential for her ascension as leader – in return. However, complications arise when the Bloodstone triggers Russell’s werewolf transformation. As hunters and transformed creatures face off, Russell may yet demonstrate his humane side despite his new form.

7 Thor (2011)

In this interpretation by Marvel, Thor is inspired by ancient Norse mythology and features the eponymous Marvel superhero who mirrors the classic thunder deity. Odin leads battles against the Frost Giants to prevent them from conquering the Nine Realms, among which is Earth. However, when Thor, Odin’s son, disobeys his father’s instructions and potentially endangers a peace treaty with the Frost Giants, he is exiled to Earth as retribution.

A Marvel Story of Myth & Magic

On Earth, Dr. Jane Foster welcomes Thor, who is striving to understand the ways of genuine heroism. Simultaneously, their brother Loki uncovers his real lineage and aspires to seize the throne of Asgard.

Significantly, the narrative unfolds further in “The Avengers” and additional direct sequels. Eventually, Loki receives his own series, named after him.

6 Thor: The Dark World (2013)

In the aftermath of the first movie Thor, we find ourselves delving straight into the next chapter titled Thor: The Dark World. This time, Asgard faces an invasion led by Malekith the Damned and his Dark Elf army. Simultaneously, a cosmic event has occurred, haphazardly creating portals across the Nine Realms. One of these portals transports Dr. Jane Foster to a concealed realm, where she becomes unwittingly entwined with the lethal artifact called the Aether.

“I Ask One Thing in Return: A Front Seat To Watch Earth Burn.”

Thor is required to work together with Loki, who was jailed for his Earth-based misdeeds. Loki possesses the means to open a gateway to Svartalfheim, often known as the “Dark Realm.” Their aim is to confront Malekith there. In many aspects, Loki’s journey mirrors how Agatha will begin her own series, breaking free from captivity, forging fresh partnerships, and delving into a character initially portrayed as an antagonist.

5 Loki (2021)

In a unique twist, the Marvel character Loki – who is known for his role as both an anti-hero and villain – takes center stage in a series of events. This version of Loki, reminiscent of the Norse trickster god, is transported to a peculiar location called the Time Variance Authority that exists beyond the conventional flow of time. In this new timeline that he has crafted, Loki is assigned the task of mending the fabric of time or risk being eliminated entirely. However, instead of rectifying the situation, Loki ultimately expands the multiverse and forges fresh alliances along the way.

“Been a Long Journey for You, Hasn’t It?”

In the vein of Loki, Agatha All Along takes a character previously perceived as a nemesis and turns the spotlight on them. Although Agatha’s comics portrayals have oscillated between supporting roles, anti-heroes, and even villainy in Ultimate Marvel, this TV series presents an opportunity to delve deeper into her complex personality.

4 Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Wanda first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the mid-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She had smaller roles in subsequent films, but it was Avengers: Age of Ultron where she truly made her entrance. Interestingly, this film also marked the debut of her romantic partner, Vision.

Two New Avengers

Following the events of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Tony Stark reassembles the Avengers with the aim of preserving global safety. In this process, he also brings back Ultron, an AI modeled after Stark, capable of commanding an entire Iron Man army. However, there’s a chance that Ultron could pose a threat on its own.

In the movie, Wanda and her brother Pietro join forces with Ultron, but Wanda’s unique abilities reveal Ultron’s hidden intentions. On the other hand, Vision is created from an android body that was originally designed for Ultron. He impresses everyone by lifting Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. By the end of the film, both Wanda and Vision are being prepared to become the next Avengers.

3 Captain America: Civil War (2016)

In the narrative of my tale, I find myself standing in the aftermath of both “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Remnants from these epic battles, such as the dismantling of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Ultron’s destructive schemes, have sparked a global conversation about superheroes being accountable to governments. As a result, the world’s mightiest beings are now faced with a tough choice: align themselves with one side or the other. I, Captain America, am leading those who believe that we should remain independent from politics, fearing we could be used as pawns. On the other hand, my friend Tony Stark, still grappling with the consequences of his A.I.’s malfunction, is spearheading the pro-regulation faction in search of redemption.

“For People To See You…As I Do.”

As a passionate moviegoer, let me share my take on the opening scenes: In the initial act, Wanda Maximoff skillfully averts an explosion, tragically leading to the demolition of a structure and unfortunate casualties. This catastrophic event serves as the decisive factor for the government’s intervention in hero affairs, pushing me, Wanda, to form an alliance with Captain America during the ensuing battle. The narrative then delves into the blossoming relationship between Vision and myself, a captivating subplot that unfolds throughout the storyline.

2 Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

In “Avengers: Infinity War,” the villain Thanos sets out to amass the mighty Infinity Gauntlet by collecting six powerful Infinity Stones. His goal is to wipe out half of all conscious beings instantly. To thwart this catastrophic plan, Earth’s superheroes, including the Avengers, and cosmic protectors like the Guardians of the Galaxy, must unite their forces.

“I Just Feel You.”

As a film enthusiast, I found myself captivated during a scene in Edinburgh where Wanda and Vision were viciously attacked by two of Thanos’ lieutenants, Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive. Their objective? To seize the Mind Stone embedded within Vision’s forehead. In a dramatic turn, Vision implored Wanda to annihilate him, believing this would shield the Mind Stone from Thanos’ grasp. However, Wanda hesitated, yearning for a less destructive solution. The Avengers shared her sentiment, seeking an alternative means of extraction. Ultimately, she consented, but their plan was foiled when the Time Stone intervened, enabling Thanos to successfully acquire the Mind Stone.

1 Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The movie titled “Avengers: Endgame” serves as a follow-up to “Avengers: Infinity War“. Following Thanos’ triumphant snap that eliminated half of all life in the universe, the remaining superheroes seek fresh companionship to help reverse the devastation they now face.

“You Took…Everything From Me.”

Following the heart-wrenching loss of Vision in the initial movie, a grief-stricken Wanda seeks retribution. Encountering an earlier version of Thanos, the antagonist remains clueless about her identity, but Wanda makes it clear he will come to recognize her once she’s finished with him. Unfortunately, Vision remains permanently destroyed in the film, and no viable means of resurrection is presented. However, these events pave the way for the forthcoming WandaVision series.
