1923 Star Reveals Harrison Ford’s Epic Behind-The-Scenes Moment During Die Hard-Style Action Scene

As a film enthusiast, be warned: I’m about to reveal spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “1923”. To fully immerse yourself in this captivating series, all you need is a subscription to Paramount+.

In the final episode of Season 2 of “1923,” there are numerous shocking events (such as the battles at the train station and ranch) and surprises (with Alex’s baby being named John). Yet, I believe that the most awe-inspiring moment in this entire episode occurred when Spencer Dutton, after killing Donald Whitfield, stepped out of his burning house alongside Jacob Dutton, following him. Naturally, I was compelled to ask Brandon Sklenar about his experience filming such an iconic scene alongside Harrison Ford, and he likened it to “Die Hard” and “John Wick.

When the final episode aired on the 2025 TV lineup, I found myself watching a particular scene for the first time. It reminded me of action movies where characters nonchalantly walk away from an explosion or a burning building without casting a glance back. Interestingly, Sklenar shared my sentiment, comparing this scene to both “Die Hard” and “John Wick,” as he confided in me.

When I watched it, it brought back the exact sensation I get from seeing similar scenes in action films like Die Hard or John Wick. You know, those moments when a character walks away nonchalantly after a building explosion. It’s a cinematic trope we’re all familiar with, and Taylor [Sheridan] seemed to be replicating that very feeling in his work.

As a die-hard action movie fan, let me highlight that it’s quite thrilling when Hans Gruber calls John McClane “Mr. Cowboy” in Die Hard – it just adds an extra layer of awesomeness to the film!

In many respects, Sepncer’s brutal elimination of those attempting to harm his family brought to mind Bruce Willis’ legendary character in the movie “Die Hard” and other action-packed roles. The dramatic exit from the blazing building following the demise of Whitfield was the perfect finishing touch, undeniably evoking the spirit of both “Die Hard” and “John Wick.

Sklenar found this scene particularly enjoyable since it echoed classic action movies, and moreover, he had the opportunity to work alongside Harrison Ford – a fact he was happy to share.

I felt like a child with unbridled excitement when given the chance to perform such an action – something I’ve never done before in any context. It was as if I captured myself taking down the bad guys and exiting a blazing building. Sharing that moment alongside Harrison Ford made it even more extraordinary, and it truly was an incredible experience.

Although Sklenar’s conversation focused on Bruce Willis and Keanu Reeves as action heroes, it’s essential not to overlook Harrison Ford, who is the main character in both the Indiana Jones films and Star Wars movies. Thus, apart from having his own iconic action scene, the Drop actor shared this moment with a genuine action legend.

He was equally mindful of it, excitedly discussing the actor from Shrinking as he recounted their experience during the filming of this remarkable scene.

During the shooting of the scene where Spencer and Jacob exited the blazing house, Sklenar mentioned that he and Ford continued walking and walking towards the cameras without pausing. Later on, his fellow actor advised him to break into a quick sprint:

After surpassing the cameras, he exclaimed, “Quickly, child, quickly!” Then, we immediately started running at full speed, while he swiftly moved away from the cameras. This moment was thrilling because that person is simply amazing. He’s the best, truly. He’s as cool, friendly, and kind as you could ever hope for. It was an unforgettable experience altogether.

To enjoy the vast expanse of the Sheridan-verse (excluding Yellowstone), Paramount+ is your go-to streaming platform. With a wealth of spinoffs, shows like Mayor of Kingstown, and even CBS’s extensive programming at your fingertips, it’s all here for just $7.99 a month. Grab the deal now!

That tale certainly enhances the overall intrigue of the situation. Despite their intimidating appearance during the scene, what captivates me most is probably their apparent enjoyment while filming it.

It’s undeniable that the thrilling and violent episodes of “1923” have been grand in scope, and this particular scene is a testament to that grandeur. Indeed, it’s not hard to see why the real-life Cowboy made such a comparison to the Cowboy character from “Die Hard” and other cherished action films.
