1923’s Julia Schlaepfer Had An Iconic Reaction When I Said Alex Reminds Me Of Kelly Reilly’s Beth From Yellowstone

Initially, as I delved into 1923, a question lingered in my mind: Could it be that the cast members borrowed elements from their counterparts in Yellowstone since many characters share familial ties? Particularly, I’ve often noticed similarities between Alex and Beth Dutton. To clarify this comparison, I reached out to Julia Schlaepfer, who portrays the woman who recently wed into the Dutton family, and she provided a memorable response.

Intriguingly enough, it remains unclear if Alex shares a familial bond with Beth, as we’re unsure if they both carry on the Dutton legacy. Yet, there’s no denying their striking similarities. Both characters exude passion, assertiveness, an unyielding spirit of independence, and have garnered a devoted fanbase. Thus, when I brought this up during my conversation with Schlaepfer about Season 2, ahead of its airing in the 2025 TV schedule, she simply replied:

“You’re absolutely right! The parallels between these two characters are fascinating.

Totally. I’m so honored. I love when people tell me Alex has Beth in there, because I love Beth.

Though I’m not convinced that Alex is as avid a cigarette smoker as Beth or an expert on ranching, it’s clear that they are both bold, self-assured individuals who aren’t afraid to speak their minds straightforwardly.

Although it’s uncertain whether Alex is a direct ancestor of Kelly Reilly’s character, as Schlaepfer noted, there are clear, purposeful similarities between them, which is quite remarkable, as she put it.

It’s unclear who will inherit the Dutton family legacy in the end, but the world portrayed is simply extraordinary and captivating to be a part of. From the start, there was an immediate sense that Taylor [Sheridan] had captured Beth’s fiery spirit so authentically, making her character truly remarkable. The writing is beautifully done, after all.

It’s likely that we’ll encounter more of Beth’s fiery spirit in Season 2 as well. With Alex and Spencer apart, and the Dutton family facing tough times during the winter, obstacles are unavoidable. Remarkably, just like Beth, Schlaepfer’s character seems prepared to confront these difficulties head-on.

Indeed, I aimed to ensure that she could manage independently on her own. During Season 1, instead of Spencer stepping in every time, I would often encourage, “She doesn’t require saving this time, she can handle it herself.” Reflecting on these moments is quite intriguing.

isn’t it characteristic of her? I adore how she stands up for herself and allows Alex to rescue her. It truly embodies Beth’s spirit. Additionally, much like Beth, Alex appears deeply dedicated to her loved ones, particularly Spencer, and seems ready to go to great lengths to locate and safeguard him.

Is it true that Beth acquired these characteristics from Alex? While it’s possible that Alex and Spencer could be the great-grandparents of Beth, Kayce, Jamie (in a roundabout way), and Lee, this hasn’t been definitively confirmed. It’s also worth noting that Elizabeth and Jack might be the direct ancestors of the main characters in “Yellowstone.” Regardless, there’s no disputing the influence that Alex has had on Beth.
