From the high-octane car chases in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” to the gripping revenge tale told by debut director Dev Patel in “Monkey Man”, it’s safe to say that this year had something for everyone who enjoys their popcorn with a side of adrenaline.
This year saw a somewhat lighter load of exciting action films compared to past years, but don’t let that fool you – there were still plenty of adrenaline-fueled movies worth checking out. In fact, the action genre has had quite an impact on cinema this year, and for those who enjoy high-octane flicks, there have been several pulse-pounding releases that are definitely worth watching or revisiting if you’ve already seen them.
The best news about this list is that every one of these six entries is currently available on streaming. If you haven’t had a chance to watch these yet, now is your chance, and if you’re looking for action, I can think of no better option than these movies right here.
Road House
Road House is a remake set in Florida, USA, a location known for its chaotic bar brawls. A former UFC fighter takes a job as a bouncer at a rowdy bar in the Florida Keys and quickly becomes embroiled in a conflict with a dangerous gang and a ruthless hitman who isn’t shy about patrolling the streets au naturel.
It’s no shock to those who watched it via Amazon Prime Video that Road House will likely still be a top action movie to watch in 2024. There was initial doubt whether a new setting and Jake Gyllenhaal could make this remake successful, but the excitement for a sequel is palpable now. I’m eagerly anticipating more of Conor McGregor in the sequel, though it appears he won’t be reprising his role.

Dune: Part Two
The much-anticipated continuation of the successful film series has finally been released, leaving us with plenty to ponder. There’s undoubtedly more story to unfold in Dune: Part Two, but it appears that the narrative is merely setting off on a fresh journey. I can hardly wait to witness how this holy war unfolds and how Paul manages to navigate his newfound power.
2021 seems to be the year where many best movie lists of the year might include “Dune: Part Two” for various reasons. Eric Eisenberg from TopMob even gave it a perfect score in his review, which I believe highlights its excellence. Moreover, the popcorn bucket resembling a sex toy is an image that I don’t think people will easily forget anytime soon.

Deadpool & Wolverine
In perilous circumstances where his universe hangs in the balance, Deadpool embarks on a quest to find Wolverine with the intention of jointly restoring order. Their journey leads them to the enigmatic realm known as The Void, where they come across numerous Marvel heroes from past Fox movies, setting the stage for an exhilarating and side-splitting escapade that will captivate viewers. For ardent Marvel enthusiasts, this team-up has long been anticipated.
For forthcoming Marvel films, this one could serve as the benchmark of excellence we strive for. Admittedly, it makes a few pointed jabs at other recent releases, which I believe may have done more damage than good. However, let’s hope that the success of this film will inspire the MCU to produce even more superior movies in the future.

A stranger arrives in town, only to be unfairly treated by the local law enforcement. As he delves deeper, he discovers a vast conspiracy that threatens many lives. Naturally, those responsible won’t want their actions revealed, leading to a thrilling journey reminiscent of a modern-day Rambo saga.
Rebel Ridge strongly argues that Aaron Pierre could become the next sensational action star in Hollywood. He exudes a cool, composed demeanor and it’s exciting to imagine him taking on villains and unmasking corruption in a high-profile production. So far, he’s made a promising start in Hollywood, and I believe this film will propel him to greater heights, potentially landing him roles in even more significant action movies.

Monkey Man
As a captivated spectator, I find myself drawn into the heart-wrenching narrative of Monkey Man, a tale that unfolds in the shadowy realms of India’s underworld. The protagonist, a resilient young soul, is on a mission to avenge his mother’s tragic death at the hands of a ruthless drug lord, a quest that began when he was but a child.
As a passionate cinephile, I must express my admiration for Dev Patel’s exceptional directorial debut – one that has left many of us, including TopMob’s Jason Wiese, eagerly anticipating his future projects. It’s always heartening to witness an artist excelling in a fresh domain, especially when they make their first foray into filmmaking. Frankly, I never thought I’d see Patel don the mantle of an action hero; he has consistently proven himself as a masterful dramatic actor. Watching him flourish in this new realm is nothing short of fulfilling!

After quite some time since Mad Max: Fury Road, we’ve now delved into the backstory of one of the film’s most intriguing characters, Furiosa. Admittedly, the reactions towards Furiosa varied greatly, but a somewhat ordinary Mad Max film would easily surpass other action movies in the league. Whether you believe it matches the excellence of the original or not, it still shines as one of the top action films of 2024. Therefore, don’t let others criticizing it discourage you from watching it if you haven’t yet.
