As a seasoned gamer who’s had the privilege of traversing countless digital realms, I must say that this year’s Pirelli Calendar feels like stepping into a breathtakingly vibrant new game level. The cast’s diversity and the concept’s focus on modern beauty make it a refreshing departure from the norm.
On Tuesday at London’s Natural History Museum, Pirelli unveiled its 2025 calendar titled “Refresh and Reveal.” This iconic calendar was captured by Ethan James Green, who shot it between May and June of this year in Miami’s Virginia Key Beach Park and an on-site studio. The diverse cast for the 51st edition includes renowned actors, artists, musicians, and models from various backgrounds.
As a gamer, I’ve got my hands on this year’s calendar, and let me tell you, it’s a beauty! It showcases a dozen diverse personalities, half in black-and-white, the other half in vibrant colors. Among the stars, we’ve got Hunter Schafer, Padma Lakshmi, Vincent Cassel, Elodie, Hoyeon, Martine Gutierrez, Connie Fleming, Jenny Shimizu, John Boyega, Simone Ashley, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Interestingly enough, the photographer himself, Green, is also featured in this calendar – making it his third time to grace the final product, after Prince Gyasi in 2024 and Bryan Adams in 2022.
Green expressed that our understanding of beauty has broadened significantly compared to what it once was, as he discussed the calendar’s theme. He was thrilled about the opportunity to showcase modern beauty within the prestigious Pirelli Calendar, a platform that has consistently championed beauty. We named this concept Refresh and Reveal, as we aim to revisit the calendar’s roots and celebrate the human form in contemporary ways that resonate with the present time.
Previously at Vogue as a fashion editor, Tonne Goodman expressed enthusiasm about her role as the 2025 Pirelli Calendar‘s fashion director and creative advisor, referring to the shoot as “simply fantastic”. She further stated, “Ethan possesses a deep understanding and admiration for refinement and the LGBTQ+ community, which is crucial in today’s climate. His diverse photography background and unique personality are evident in his work, as he is sensitive, bold, and uncompromising. I believe this blend, combined with his ability to create elegance in the studio through lighting and direction, is truly remarkable.
