As a cinephile who has spent countless hours in the darkened halls of movie theaters, I can confidently say that the upcoming slate of films in 2025 is nothing short of a cinematic feast. From the return of beloved franchises like Mortal Kombat and Predator, to the highly anticipated adaptations of The Running Man and Zootopia 2, there’s something for every moviegoer.
It’s indisputable that the current era has significantly transformed how people watch movies, with innovations such as the rapid growth of streaming platforms and studio films becoming accessible for digital rental and purchase at increasingly earlier dates. However, nothing can duplicate the thrill of attending a theater and watching a movie on a large screen. As I glance at the 2025 movie release schedule, there are numerous titles that I’m positive I won’t want to miss during their theatrical debuts.
The 2025 calendar is far from set in stone, as new films will be added and others rescheduled, but there are currently 26 titles that I register as must-sees for the silver screen, and I’ve put together this feature to both highlight them and explain why.
Wolf Man (January 17, 2025)
At the beginning of 2020, Leigh Whannell demonstrated through “The Invisible Man” that he possessed both the talent and enthusiasm to breathe new life into one of Universal’s classic monsters. Experiencing comedy and horror on stage is incredibly enjoyable since it allows you to laugh and scream together with a crowd. Is there any franchise that calls for a big-screen experience more than Mission: Impossible? The Life Of Chuck (May 30, 2025)
Although I’ve previously watched “The Life Of Chuck” in a theater, since I plan to watch the heartwarming and beautiful Stephen King film directed by Mike Flanagan on the big screen once more when it hits theaters, I will include it for this article.
28 Years Later (June 20, 2025)
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland collaborated to send shivers down spines back in 2002 with the chilling movie, “28 Days Later“, featuring the concept of swift, enraged zombies. The thought of what the world has evolved into in almost three decades is making me absolutely thrilled! If it lives up to the anticipation stirred by the trailer for “28 Years Later“, watching this one with a crowd promises to be an exhilarating experience!
F1 (June 27, 2025)
2022 saw director Joseph Kosinski breathe new life into cinema experiences with Tom Cruise starring in the high-flying adventure Top Gun: Maverick. Fingers crossed that he can capture that same electrifying atmosphere again, but this time on solid ground with blazingly fast vehicles and a different big-name actor taking the lead – namely Brad Pitt.
M3GAN 2.0 (June 27, 2025)
2023 saw massive enthusiasm for M3GAN’s mischief, as her risky AI persona went viral well ahead of her movie premiere in cinemas. It’s likely that this excitement will continue when M3GAN 2.0 hits theaters in summer 2025.
Jurassic World: Rebirth (July 2, 2025)
Despite some doubts about the quality of the Jurassic World series within the Jurassic Park franchise, the magic of witnessing dinosaurs on screen never fades, and it continues to fuel my excitement for Jurassic World: Rebirth as its premiere draws near.
Untitled Trey Parker / Matt Stone / Kendrick Lamar / Dave Free Project (July 4, 2025)
I’ve eagerly been waiting nearly two decades for Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s next big-screen movie, ever since “Team America: World Police” came out in 2004. Therefore, I won’t miss the chance to catch their latest comedy in theaters.
Superman (July 11, 2025)
James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film will serve as the initial release within DC Studios’ plan for the DC Universe, making it a highly anticipated movie to watch under optimal conditions. However, it’s also worth noting that Gunn has a reputation for creating groundbreaking blockbusters with his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025)
For decades, Marvel enthusiasts have eagerly anticipated a big-screen adaptation of the Fantastic Four that truly does justice to the characters. It’s expected that the team’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will finally fulfill these long-held expectations. When it comes to unmissable theater experiences in 2025, this one definitely stands out.
The Naked Gun (August 1, 2025)
If the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun, featuring Liam Neeson, manages to recreate the hilarious charm that Leslie Nielsen brought to the original film, then it promises to be an absolutely riotous spectacle and a delightful experience to enjoy with a full theater audience.
Nobody 2 (August 15, 2025)
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, “Nobody” didn’t reach the same level of success as it potentially could have if released under regular circumstances. However, it’s great news that viewers will get another chance to witness Bob Odenkirk’s action-packed performances when “Nobody 2” hits cinemas in August next year.
The Bride! (September 26, 2025)
The publicly revealed character sketches for the movie “The Bride!” featuring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale hint at an innovative conceptualization by writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal for her adaptation of Frankenstein/The Bride Of Frankenstein. It is anticipated that this production will prove to be a captivating theatrical experience, particularly during the spooky autumn season.

From what’s known so far about Aziz Ansari’s upcoming film, “Good Fortune”, not much has been disclosed publicly. However, I had a sneak peek at CinemaCon 2024, and with an impressive ensemble cast featuring Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, and Keke Palmer alongside Ansari, it appears to be a comedy that promises to fill theaters with the resonant sounds of hearty laughter.
Mortal Kombat 2 (October 24, 2025)
Similar to the previously mentioned film “Nobody”, the latest “Mortal Kombat” movie from 2021 was deprived of a full theater experience due to the pandemic, but the sequel, “Mortal Kombat 2”, is set to release in 2025 and make up for what its predecessor missed out on.
Predator: Badlands (November 7, 2025)
Although it’s regrettable that Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey was exclusively available through streaming, it’s exciting to know that the Predator franchise is returning to cinematic adventures in 2025 with Predator: Badlands. Here’s hoping this new installment will once again prove why this series deserves a place on the big screen.
The Running Man (November 21, 2025)
Edgar Wright’s movies are consistently visual treats, and even though his upcoming film version of Stephen King’s “The Running Man” might offer a distinctly different mood compared to his usual work, the best way to take it all in will undoubtedly be on a large cinema screen.
Zootopia 2 (November 26, 2025)
Disney Animation Studios crafted an astonishingly detailed universe with Zootopia, leaving viewers feeling there’s much more to discover. Luckily, we’ll have the opportunity to return to this expansive animated realm when Zootopia 2 hits theaters in 2025, and it’s anticipated that viewing it on a grand scale will deepen our admiration for this cinematic masterpiece.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Release Date TBA)
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel disappointed that I missed out on seeing Glass Onion in theaters due to Netflix’s decision to give it a brief release. Fingers crossed that when Wake Up Dead Man, the next Benoit Blanc mystery, hits the scene, it gets a proper cinematic run if it ever graces the big screen.
