27 Years Later, We Still Have Questions About Blade’s Most Iconic Scene

In the action-packed vampire film, “Blade,” starring Wesley Snipes, airing on SYFY this month, begins with an extraordinary opening scene that stands out in the annals of action movie history. A helpless man is lured by a captivating woman to a subterranean techno club, where he’s immersed amidst partygoers lost in the rhythm. However, he soon senses a drip on his hand, and it turns out to be blood. As the music reaches its climax, so do the sprinklers, drenching everyone with gallons of blood, revealing the revelers as vampires. Overwhelmed, the man panics and scampers off just as Blade, the fearless vampire hunter, bursts onto the scene, primed to commence slaying.

As a gamer immersed in this captivating cinematic world, I’m struck by a scene that masterfully sets the film’s mood. The hidden society of these vampires, lurking in the shadows of our reality, is intriguingly unveiled. They’re not just bloodsuckers; they throw wild parties and toy with their prey. And when the Daywalker makes his entrance into their club, you can see the ripples of his reputation in their reactions. It’s a testament to how skillfully this story is being told.

Nevertheless, we have some questions about the blood rave.

For More on Blade

1. Instead of “Blade threw a bloody rave at the box office,” you could say “The movie Blade had a very successful run at the box office with a lot of action and bloodshed.”

2. A more natural way to phrase “What Happened? An Animal cannibalism: The science behind Blade II’s Reaper Vampires” could be “What ended up happening in that deleted scene from Blade II related to the eating habits of the Reaper Vampires, and what does science say about it?”

3. A more natural way to phrase “A Deleted Scene in Blade Was Supposed to Set up a Major Spider-Man Villain” could be “There was a deleted scene in Blade that was intended to introduce a significant villain for Spider-Man.”

Some of our many questions about Blade‘s opening blood rave

Where did the vampires get all that blood?

After conducting some research and analyzing data from Reddit, it appears that approximately 283 adult humans’ worth of blood (taking an average of 1.35 gallons per adult) might have sprayed out from those sprinklers. This staggering amount could also be equivalent to the blood of 40 cows or 6,800 one-pint donations from blood banks. Given this significant quantity, one may wonder where all that blood originated for this particular rave. The source of such a large volume remains uncertain.

Does the blood come from the butcher?

In the scene we observe, a potential vampire victim and his companion stroll through what appears to be a cold storage facility en route to a rave. One might wonder if these individuals are ordinary humans oblivious to the events unfolding or if they’re vampires tasked with providing cow blood for the festivities. Since Blade’s version of vampires cannot subsist on cow blood, it seems probable that the sprinkling of cow blood is more for aesthetic purposes rather than sustenance. This helps clarify where the vampires might obtain their blood, but it leaves a sense of dullness if it’s not genuine blood.

Do they do blood raves like this often?

Is this event unique to vampires, or do they often hold blood-themed parties known as ‘raves’? As the crowd eagerly raises their arms in preparation, it seems that either they were previously informed or have attended similar events before. If so, how frequent are these raves? Are they a nightly, weekly, or monthly occurrence at this club, or is it the only one of its kind within the vampire community? If blood raves happen regularly, the source of such a large quantity of blood becomes increasingly important to know: Where do they acquire all this blood?

Do they reuse the blood?

If they manage to collect and recycle a significant amount of blood using drains on the dance floor, it would eliminate the necessity of draining approximately 300 adults’ blood during each event. This raises another point for consideration, however.

If they effectively recycle blood through dance floor drains, they wouldn’t have to drain around 300 adult individuals every party. This thought also triggers a new query.

How sanitary is this?

It’s apparent that the vampires are consuming the blood, as it’s reaching their mouths, although it’s more like a champagne spray than a traditional meal. If they are recycling the same blood, we have some health concerns regarding contamination, but perhaps vampires prioritize differently when it comes to hygiene.

Do you need special sprinkler equipment to make them spray blood instead of water?

We may not be professional plumbers, but we have a worry that if left untreated, the blood might dry up and become sticky, potentially causing blockages in the pipes or nozzles. It’s just a concern; it might not be valid at all.

Who is cleaning all this up?

At this specific blood rave, no one cleans up afterwards because Blade, a destructive force, usually crashes the party and slaughters many attendees. However, if the blood rave had gone according to plan, it’s safe to assume that someone would have been there with a lot of bleach to clean up. The lack of evidence from previous blood raves suggests that they might have done this before (as mentioned in Question 2). If so, they must be exerting considerable effort to tidy everything up, as the state of the rave floor would likely not be appealing under a blacklight, regardless.

What about all the vampires’ clothes?

The main question here revolves around the vampires’ plan for the blood-filled rave, given Blade’s absence. Initially, it’s clear that the event is happening within a large city building in Los Angeles. The entrance is discreet, yet the rave is occurring in one of America’s biggest cities. Multiple vampires are participating in the rave. If Blade hadn’t intervened, what would their strategy have been? Would they all leave the venue covered in blood and casually walk onto the streets? That seems quite noticeable, right? Or perhaps they always prepare for such events, with showers available on site? Maybe they even bring extra clothes to change into? It appears that many of them are wearing stylish clubbing outfits which will undeniably be ruined by the blood spatter. I highly doubt those stains would wash off easily!

It’s worth noting that none of these questions detract from how impressive Blade’s opening scene is. The movie is fantastic, but let’s be honest, we don’t have any personal experience with vampires or clubbing, if you catch my drift. These are simply some thoughts to consider while watching Blade, maybe when it gets re-aired on SYFY.
