As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with a soft spot for zombie apocalypse narratives, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation upon seeing the latest “28 Years Later” trailer. The quick shot of what appears to be a familiar figure standing up amidst an open field has sparked quite a debate among fans. Could it possibly be Cillian Murphy’s Jim, the iconic protagonist from “28 Days Later”?
I couldn’t help but notice the buzz among fans about a familiar face that popped up in the latest trailer for “28 Years Later”. Past the Teletubbies, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s archery skills, or the impressive skull and bone monument – it’s the fleeting glimpse of what seems to be a zombie at approximately 1 minute and 48 seconds that has everyone abuzz. As this seemingly lifeless figure slowly rises in an open field, I find myself joining the chorus of voices on the internet who can’t help but see striking resemblances with Cillian Murphy’s character, Jim, the unforgettable protagonist from “28 Days Later.
Initially, let me clarify that the “zombies” from “28 Days Later” aren’t your typical undead creatures; they are people infected with a rage virus instead. However, this character appears quite zombie-like, and given his strong jawline and sorrowful gaze, it isn’t entirely implausible. Despite Jim surviving the events of the first film, he was absent in “28 Weeks Later.” Consequently, anything could have transpired for him leading up to this new installment, including a tragic demise. Another possibility is that this zombified version of Jim might not be real; it could instead represent a dream sequence where Jim ponders the consequences of another encounter with the rage virus.
Currently, it’s clear that Murphy will indeed be returning to his character Jim, though he won’t be the primary focus this time. Instead, the leading role appears to be going to Taylor-Johnson. As for the storyline, all we can gather so far is that the rage virus has made a comeback, and a new group of survivors find themselves in a challenging situation once more. The plot summary available doesn’t provide much additional detail.
Is it actually Jim?
The important thing to note, no matter what you believe at this point, is that trailers have lied to us many times before. Remember that whole “Avengers: Infinity War” misdirect back in 2018? In case you forgot or blocked it out, Hulk could very clearly be seen charging into battle with the rest of the gang in Wakanda in the official trailer … only for Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to clumsily rely on the Hulkblaster armor for the climactic fight in the actual film. It wasn’t the most devastating lie ever told in the history of the MCU, but it definitely bummed a lot of people out.
2014’s “Godzilla” film certainly generated excitement among viewers, especially after Bryan Cranston, fresh from his iconic role in “Breaking Bad,” joined the cast. Regrettably, his character met an untimely end during the opening scenes. While the movie was still enjoyable overall, it was a disappointing turn of events for fans expecting more of Cranston’s exceptional acting talent within the script.
At present, it remains uncertain where “28 Years Later” will land on the scale of meeting expectations versus actuality. However, one thing is certain – we are eagerly anticipating Danny Boyle’s new project, and we fervently hope that it becomes widely popular upon its release in cinemas.
