3 Indian Movies Take Netflix by Storm: You Won’t Believe Their Success!

3 Indian films simultaneously made their way onto Netflix’s charts. While Bollywood, the well-known Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai, has produced global stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, there are numerous other significant film industries across India that generate hit movies in different languages. These include Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, and Punjabi films.

Recently, Indian films have been consistently raking in significant profits following the triumph of the 2022 blockbuster RRR, which earned an Oscar for Best Original Song and ranked as the third highest-grossing Indian movie at that time. This record was later broken by Pushpa 2: The Rule in 2024, leading to a surge of successful Indian blockbusters. In just two years, films like Jawan, Pathaan from 2023 and Kalki 2898 AD have all made their way onto the list of the Top 10 highest-grossing Indian movies.

Retro, HIT: The Third Case, & Sikandar Are Thriving On Netflix

The Movies Have Charted At The Same Time

The films “Sikandar”, “HIT: The Third Case”, and “Retro” have all made it to the top of a popular streaming platform’s chart at the same time. “Sikandar” is a Bollywood action drama featuring Salman Khan, known for his numerous significant projects like multiple films from the YRF Spy Universe. On the other hand, “HIT” is a Telugu-language action sequel where Nani reprises his role as police superintendent Arjun Sarkaar, following his introduction in the second installment. Lastly, “Retro” is an action romance in Tamil language starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde as a tragically fated pair.

During the week of May 26 to June 1, Netflix released their Top 10 list of the most-viewed non-English movies. Interestingly, all three Indian films made it onto the chart. “Sikandar” secured the third spot with a total of 5.1 million viewers who watched for a combined 11.4 million hours, just behind “HIT: The Third Case” at No. 4, which garnered 4.2 million viewers and 10.8 million viewing hours. Lastly, the Indian film “Retro” came in at No. 7 with 2.5 million viewers who spent a total of 6.9 million hours watching it.

In a total of 27 nations, Sikandar ranked among the top 10, and he even held the number one spot in nine of those countries, including Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. On the other hand, HIT managed to secure a place within the top 10 in 14 countries and took the leading position in India, outranking Sikandar. Lastly, Retro was also among the top 10 in 13 different countries and claimed the number one spot in Sri Lanka.

What This Means For Netflix

India Is Becoming Increasingly Prominent

It appears that the number of days a movie was accessible on Netflix during the studied week correlates closely with its position on the charts, suggesting an equal level of success for all. This could be promising news for Netflix’s future Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi movies, demonstrating their potential strength in the industry. Although Spanish and South Korean content have been leading the non-English Netflix chart, this achievement underscores India’s growing influence as a significant player in the global entertainment market.
