Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the muscular Julius, a result of an experiment to create the ideal male specimen, who eventually meets his long-lost sibling, the 4’10” Vincent (Danny DeVito), who was the unexpected second embryo in the same experiment.
Adaptation (2002)
Drawing inspiration from his efforts to transform Susan Orlean’s 1998 non-fiction work, The Orchid Thief, into a screenplay, Charlie Kaufman dreamed up the movie Adaptation. In this Academy Award-winning comedy, Nicolas Cage plays dual roles – as the respected writer and his lazy, freeloading twin brother, Donald Kaufman, who assists him in scriptwriting.
Double Impact (1991)
Instead of just one action film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme being great, having two of him in an action movie would make it even more spectacular! The popular ’90s action flick, “Double Impact“, features the talented Belgian martial artist portraying twin brothers Chad and Alex. Having been separated for most of their lives, they reunite to seek vengeance for their parents’ tragic murder.
Stuck On You (2003)
In “Stuck on You”, Greg Kinnear portrays Walt Tenor, who persuades his conjoined twin brother Bob (Matt Damon), to relocate to Los Angeles, allowing Walt to chase his dream of acting. The Farrelly brothers, who wrote and directed the film, interestingly note that they hadn’t intended when creating this comedy, which also features Cher, that it mirrors their own story, with the exception that the central characters are physically linked at the torso.
Legend (2015)
Director Brian Helgeland’s “Legend” is a film that carries the same name in multiple senses. Beyond recounting the authentic tale of the ascent and downfall of infamous twin gangsters Reggie and Ronnie Kray in 1960s London, it also shares its title with another movie entirely – Ridley Scott’s 1985 fantasy masterpiece featuring Tom Cruise.
The Social Network (2010)
Apart from delving into the growth of Facebook and the questionable legal issues within tech corporations, David Fincher’s film The Social Network generated much debate about the technology employed to depict Armie Hammer playing both Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. Unlike traditional split-screen shots, Hammer’s face was digitally superimposed onto Josh Pence’s body for scenes where the twin brothers, who were business partners and later rivals of Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg), appeared together.
New York Minute (2004)
The initial movie that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were prominently featured in, “It Takes Two” from 1995, interestingly, doesn’t have them playing as sisters, but rather as puzzling doppelgangers. In 2004, nine years later, the duo appeared together on screen as actual siblings in their second and last theatrically released movie “New York Minute”. This film, unfortunately, was a commercial disappointment, with their visit to New York City marred by a sequence of unfortunate events.
The Skeleton Twins (2014)
Although boasting two comedic veterans from Saturday Night Live, The Skeleton Twins is a film that frankly addresses mental illness, interspersed with occasional humor. In this twin-centric movie, Bill Hader plays Milo who reconnects with his sister Maggie, portrayed by Kristen Wiig. Struggling siblings join forces to navigate their emotional turmoil.
Dead Ringers (1988)
One of director David Cronenberg’s most notable films, “Dead Ringers,” features Jeremy Irons portraying twin gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle, who frequently exploit their physical similarity. This psychological thriller later served as the basis for a more ominous television adaptation, where Rachel Weisz assumes two roles.
The Parent Trap (1998)

The Man In The Iron Mask (1998)
In Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later, the movie The Man in the Iron Mask features Leonardo DiCaprio portraying King Louis XIV and his twin brother, Philippe Bourbon, who is imprisoned and forced to wear an uncomfortable iron mask by the king. In an effort to dethrone the corrupt monarch, a group of four musketeers – played by Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Gabriel Byrne, and Gérard Depardieu – come together to help Philippe.
Goodnight Mommy (2015)
One particularly chilling film featuring twin characters is “Goodnight Mommy,” where Elias and Lukas Schwarz portray the roles of the titular siblings. They grow suspicious of their mother, Susanne Wuest, upon her return home following a cosmetic surgery, questioning whether she is truly who she appears to be. It slipped our mind that “The Boondock Saints” is a twin movie until more recently, as the fact that the primary brotherly pair are fraternal twins is not a significant aspect of the storyline. This much-loved crime thriller features Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as Connor and Murphy MacManus, who think they were divinely chosen to mete out brutal justice on Boston’s criminal underworld.
Twitches (2005)
Tia and Tamara Mowry gained widespread recognition for starring in the sitcom, Sister, Sister, where they portrayed twin siblings who were separated at birth but later reunited. Interestingly, this plotline is similar to their Disney Channel original movie, Twitches, except that their characters, Alex and Camryn, not only reconnect after being apart, but also find out that they originate from a mystical otherworld and have magical powers.
Basket Case (1982)
Frank Henenlotter’s initial film, the iconic and defining horror movie titled Basket Case, is undoubtedly a standout. This chilling tale centers around Kevin Van Hentenryck as Duane, who journeys to New York City together with his separated-at-birth twin brother Belial (a nonverbal creature with a face and single hand) to seek retribution from the surgeon responsible for their separation.
Leaves Of Grass (2009)
Unlike Walt Whitman’s renowned poem collection “Leaves of Grass,” the movie “Leaves of Grass” is a gripping dark comedy. The film was written and stars Tim Blake Nelson, who appears in it. Contrarily to the lead role, Edward Norton, an Academy Award nominee, takes center stage, portraying Ivy League professor Bill Kincaid and his twin brother, Brady, who seeks Bill’s aid in apprehending an Oklahoma drug lord disguised as him.
House of Wax (2005)
In the movie where Jared Padalecki and Paris Hilton co-starred with Brian Van Holt, it’s clear why he might be overlooked as a standout cast member from House of Wax.
