40 Acres – Release News

Vertigo Releasing is thrilled to share that starting from August 1st, audiences in the United Kingdom and Ireland will have the opportunity to watch the post-apocalyptic thriller titled “40 Acres” at their local cinemas.

Hailey Freeman (Deadwyler) and her family are the final descendants of African American farmers who moved to rural Canada following the first Civil War in 1875. In a future where famine reigns, they fight tirelessly to protect what’s left of their home from those who seek to claim it.

In this production, I had the privilege of sharing the screen with the talented Danielle Deadwyler (Till, I Saw The TV Glow, Carry-On), Kataem O’Connor (Murdoch Mysteries, Time Cut, Heartland), and Michael Greyeyes (The King Tide, 1923, Wild Indian). Last year, our film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival to an overwhelmingly positive response from critics. 40 Acres currently holds a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting a remarkable 91% critic score.*

40 Acres, a movie, was helmed by R.T. Thorne (known for Blindspot, The Porter), who lent his extensive 20-year directing expertise to the project. This is Thorne’s first feature film as a director, co-written with Glenn Taylor, and its story was conceived by Thorne and Lora Campbell (creators of #Interns, Yoga 101).
