6 movies on Netflix that every introvert would enjoy watching
1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Naina)
Back in 2013, I found myself deeply immersed in Ayan Mukerji’s directorial masterpiece, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. As one who appreciates heartfelt storytelling, this film has held a special place among the many Bollywood productions I’ve come across. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kalki Koechlin, it stands out as one of the most cherished coming-of-age films in our cinematic landscape.
In contrast to the lively and laid-back characters of Bunny (Ranbir), Aditi (Kalki), and Avi (Aditya), it was Deepika’s character, Naina, who was notably reserved. She found it challenging to fit in with others, yet as the story unfolds, a captivating side of her emerges, which is equally enchanting.
2. Karthik Calling Karthik (Karthik)
Up next is Vijay Lalwani’s film “Karthik Calling Karthik,” released in 2010, which might be stirring some nostalgia within you. This intriguing romantic thriller, starring Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone, deserves more attention than it typically receives. The story revolves around a shy and introverted character named Karthik (played by Farhan), who has faced bullying and multiple setbacks in his life.
One day, his life undergoes a significant change when he receives a call from a cryptic individual who promises to improve him and his character. As events unfold, the plot reaches a shocking climax that will astonish film enthusiasts. Remarkably, it emerges as one of the most exceptional films narrated through an introvert’s perspective.
3. Qala
In 2022, the film titled Qala was directed by Anvita Dutt Guptan. This captivating production is a must-see and features Triptii Dimri in the lead role, joined by Babil Khan, Swastika Mukherjee, and others in significant roles. This musical suspense follows Qala, an exceptionally gifted singer, who yearns to be recognized as great. To achieve this, she works tirelessly, but sometimes diligence can outshine natural ability.
In a surprising turn of events, Jagan’s mother suddenly appears and becomes a key figure in his career growth. She encourages him wholeheartedly. However, she advocates for her daughter to marry, expressing the traditional view that a woman’s role is with her husband. This advice stirs deep emotions within her, leading to internal conflict and eventual outbursts of distress.
4. Tamasha (Ved)
Up next on the roster is Imtiaz Ali’s film Tamasha, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Known for his penchant for creating complex characters, this movie showcases Ved (Ranbir), who exhibits both introverted and extroverted traits. While he enjoys every moment with Tara (Deepika) in Corsica, there are also scenes where he struggles to express his true self due to the career path he has chosen for himself.
5. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (Jai)
In 2008, Abbas Tyrewala’s film “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” was released. This movie, starring Imran Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, has only grown more charming over time, much like a well-aged wine. The plot revolves around two best friends, Jai and Aditi (played by Imran and Genelia), who remain oblivious to their mutual feelings until they help each other find romantic partners.
At social gatherings, Aditi was the vibrant, energetic spirit who lit up the room, contrasting with Jai, who radiated a serene, thoughtful maturity. He had an impressive circle of friends and could engage in lively discussions, yet he generally avoided confrontations. In a surprising turn, the movie’s dramatic finale showcased an unexpected facet of his character, resulting in one of the most impactful scenes for this romantic comedy.
6. Barreily Ki Barfi (Pritam Vidrohi)
In the 2017 film “Barreily Ki Barfi,” actors Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, and Kriti Sanon deliver outstanding performances in a delightful romantic comedy. The story follows Bitti Mishra (Kriti), a fearless woman from the town of Bareilly, who stumbles upon a book titled “Bareilly Ki Barfi.” To her astonishment, she recognizes herself in the book’s protagonist. Eager to meet the author, Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar), Bitti believes he understands and values her authentic self, so she embarks on a quest to find him.
In the story, Chirag (Ayushmann) comes across as cunning and manipulative, while Pritam Vidrohi is portrayed as an innocent salesman easily swayed by Chirag. However, later on, we witness him retaliating against his tormentors by stripping them of something vital in their lives – a twist that adds intrigue to the film. Despite being part of a larger scheme, viewers find themselves drawn to Raj’s character throughout the movie.
