6 fabulously uplifting classic rock songs to make even a bad day better

Music holds an incredibly impactful role in people’s lives. It can make the start and end of their day truly special, providing comfort with its soft, soothing melodies during quiet moments, and offering motivation and inspiration when faced with difficult times. This universal effect is found across all types of music genres, such as rock, funk, classical, punk, metal, or any other preferred style. At almost any given moment, there’s a song to match one’s mood and needs, making it an incredibly powerful tool for us all.

Although we don’t always take full advantage of it, let’s all promise to utilize the vast selection of music available today more often. It could provide an energy boost similar to caffeine or serve as a gentle pain reliever, and it’s certainly better for your well-being. Go ahead and jot down a reminder to either do this right away or save it for when you’re in need of a resolution that you can realistically maintain.

Streaming services such as Spotify often organize music based on genres, days, seasons, and various other categories. While they might not pay artists generously, they excel at creating algorithms that cater to your musical preferences. However, there are times when you crave control over the tunes that lift your spirits. Here’s a list of six songs I personally love for an instant energy boost or relaxation, and even for moments that call for cheerful audio bliss – essentially, my pick-me-ups!

Fabulously uplifting classic rock songs

Bob Geldof – “The Great Song Of Indifference”

After achieving great success with the Boomtown Rats, Bob Geldof didn’t continue his solo career with similar levels of fame afterwards. However, this doesn’t diminish his historical significance. One of his solo songs from 1990 is particularly noteworthy and can be seen as a kind of “middle finger” song due to its boldness, attitude, and style. It serves as an excellent response when things seem tough or when you feel like the world or your boss is against you. Give it a listen, especially the lyrics, let them resonate loudly (preferably in private) as it plays, and you’ll find that the world feels a little better. A quick, effective solution indeed.

The Alarm – “Sixty Eight Guns”

This track shares some similarities with the Geldof song previously mentioned, serving as an inspiring anthem to energize and motivate listeners. Filled with vigor and determination, it undeniably stirs up adrenaline and gets your heart racing. Originated from a tale about Glasgow gangs, it exudes an aura of indomitability, preparing you to face any challenge head-on. Released as a single by the Welsh band The Alarm in 1983, it was a sound that immediately caught attention upon first listen. To this day, its power and impact remain unchanged.

Plastic Bertrand – “Ca Plane Pour Moi”

1977’s standout single serves as an excellent choice for perking up one’s spirits. It’s incredibly infectious, boasting a memorable chorus, and the fact that it’s sung in another language only enhances its allure and power. The song has a playful design with a touch of punk influence, but it manages to work wonderfully and exudes an immense amount of energy. You can’t help but move to its rhythm, whether you sway or pogo along.

Remember, if you prefer the full Pogo impact, then “Pogo Pop” on the B side might suit you better. It was initially planned to be the A side until it was switched at the last moment. That was a smart move indeed! Let’s return to the A side and Roger Jouret, his real name. With his Plastic Bertrand pants on, he delivers the lyrics to this lively track. It blends the rebellious spirit of Geldof with the inspiring mood of “Sixty Eight Guns,” making it perfect if that’s what you’re looking for.

Three more classic rock tunes to brighten your day

John Miles – “Music

Let’s transition to timeless tunes that you can’t help but appreciate and respect as they put a smile on your face. The first one on my list of favorites is this powerful song by John Miles, which was his greatest hit and rightfully so, winning an Ivor Novello Award in 1977.

This tune takes you on an extraordinary voyage, gradually growing and moving through diverse phases. It starts gently with just piano, but soon introduces a captivating guitar melody, and off we go! If you’re seeking a spirit-lifting sound, a cozy, enveloping musical embrace, this is just the one for you.

Stevie Wonder – “Sir Duke”

For my second choice of songs that instantly lift my spirits, it’s the upbeat and lively track “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder. Among his numerous tunes, this one holds a special place for me. The reasons could be the unyielding rhythm, the captivating opening horn sound, or perhaps the overall funky groove of the song. It’s incredibly uplifting and perfect for brightening up anyone’s day. A touch of Stevie Wonder never fails to enhance life.

ELO -” Mr Blue Sky”

Undoubtedly, “Sunny Day” from ELO’s timeless album “Out Of The Blue” perfectly encapsulates a sunshine-filled mood. Composed during a spell of clear skies following a prolonged rainy phase while Jeff Lynne was penning the album, it’s a testament to his quick creativity. Interestingly, he managed to complete this double album in mere three and a half weeks, showcasing his extraordinary genius!

If you’d like some of their creative talent to inspire you, let’s kick things off by listening to this tune that sets a joyful and imaginative vibe. You can’t help but feel uplifted as the music progresses, with its energetic rhythms, cowbells, and even operatic elements – it’s easy to see why they were often compared to The Beatles’ offspring, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It’s a song that never fails to lift my spirits whenever I need a pick-me-up.
