8 male characters from Netflix movies that won us over with their innocence

As a lifelong Bollywood enthusiast, I have to confess that my heart skips a beat every time I witness a character who embodies vulnerability and introversion on the silver screen. The characters listed here from Netflix movies are absolute gems that have left me spellbound with their authentic portrayals.

Times have changed from when male actors were primarily cast in over-the-top roles with constant masculinity. Now, Bollywood creators are embracing a new perspective, showcasing the sensitive and introspective aspects of men. Here are some captivating characters from Netflix movies that left us in awe of their quiet strength and reserved personalities.

Contrary to common assumption, which often portrays innocent men as dull or unintelligent, the captivating storytellers of Bollywood have crafted characters that ignite our enthusiasm and inspire our support.

8 characters from Netflix movies that have our hearts

1.  Prem-Hum Saath Saath Hain

At the forefront is none other than the original quiet gentleman of Bollywood, Prem from the widely acclaimed Hum Saath Saath Hain. Under the guidance of director Sooraj Barjatya, Salman Khan’s character won our affection with his endearing childlike innocence. A quintessential mama’s boy, Prem consistently prioritized his family over personal matters. His feelings for his loved ones were marked by deep respect, boundless love, and selfless devotion.

Enhancing his endearing innocence was the romantic aspect between him and Sonali Bendre’s character, Preeti. He endeared himself to us by resting his head on her lap and always considering his “mamma” before taking significant actions, earning our affection.

2.  Jai Singh Rathore-Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Moving forward is Imran Khan’s character Jai Singh Rathore from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Originating from a lineage of warriors, he chose to steer clear of conflicts and violence. While not necessarily timid or reserved, his thoughtful perspective on life captivated us deeply. He embodied the ideal of being an affectionate son, loving partner, and trustworthy friend all in one.

Jai openly displayed his kindness and generosity, consistently putting the well-being of others above his own needs.

3.  Pritam Vidrohi- Bareilly Ki Barfi

It’s fair to point out that Rajkummar Rao doesn’t just portray characters; he embodies them. In the film Bareilly Ki Barfi, alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti Sanon, he played the endearing character of Pritam Vidrohi. His shy and timid persona made him an easy target for constant bullying by his peers.

Later on in the movie, he manages to flip the situation in an unexpected manner. Watching these types of characters succeed makes us root for them wholeheartedly, and for all the best possible reasons.

4.  Deepak Kumar-Laapataa Ladies

In Laapataa Ladies, Deepak Kumar’s performance by Sparsh Shrivastava left us questioning if such gentlemen genuinely exist. Under the direction of Kiran Rao, his portrayal of Deepak’s introverted and shy nature brought on a broad smile. The way he navigated his interactions with women, especially Pratibha Ranta’s character Jaya, was endearing.

A notable trait of Nitanshi Goel’s Phool (his character) was his unwavering devotion to his wife. Not only did he tirelessly work to reunite his wife with him, but he also took care that Jaya would have a secure journey.

5.  Rishu-Haseen Dillruba

In the intriguing mystery-thriller Haseen Dillruba, Vikrant Massey’s portrayal of Rishu warrants particular recognition. The film centers around an individual with social uneasiness who finds it challenging to articulate his feelings. He conceals his emotional fragility beneath a reserved demeanor.

Through his ability to listen attentively and keenly observe, Rishu dons a metaphorical shield. Yet, it’s in the unfolding events and plot twists that we witness Rishu undergoing a dramatic change, shedding his original traits and revealing an entirely new persona.

6.  Rohan-Udaan

In the film Udaan directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, we find ourselves drawn to the character of Rajat Barmecha’s Rohan. This ordinary middle-class boy harbors a deep love for writing, yet finds himself encountering obstacles as he pursues his dream against the backdrop of a strict father. Despite these challenges, Rohan’s unwavering commitment to his passions serves as an incredible source of inspiration.

The genuine and uncensored nature of these characterizations continues to resonate deeply with viewers long past the movie’s debut.

7.  Rajesh-Hum Aapke Hain Koun

One could certainly argue that Mohnish Bahl skillfully portrayed the character of Rajesh in Hum Aapke Hain Koun. From the onset, we witness his balanced blend of maturity and reserve, beginning with his arranged marriage to Renuka Shahane’s Pooja. Throughout the film, he demonstrates his deep commitment to his family and unwavering love for his brother Prem.

In my own life, I’ve always trusted the choices made by those dear to me, even when it comes to decisions that directly affect me. Just as I readily agreed to marry Nisha, portrayed by the talented Madhuri Dixit in our story, I found myself doing so without a second thought. However, upon discovering Prem’s deep love for Nisha, I was quick to lend my support. My artistic talents in painting and my patience only served to further enrich my character.

8.  Siddharth-Friday Night Plans

While not as widely talked about, Siddharth from Friday Night Plans is another authentic and heartwarming character worth mentioning. Played by Babil Khan, Siddharth starts off as an anonymous, reserved guy at school but turns out to be a revelation after his amazing performance in the school football match.

In the movie, Siddharth significantly contributes to portraying various emotional transformations, stirring feelings of empathy among viewers. His on-screen persona brings an element of familiarity through its exploration of camaraderie and personal growth.
