Spoilers ahead for 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 10, “Voices.” Read at your own risk!
The eighth season of 9-1-1 on the 2025 TV schedule is carrying on with expectations high, as the plot thickens with Maddie’s kidnapping and Eddie’s relocation to Texas. Fans have been left on tenterhooks since Season 2, when Eddie became an integral member of the 118 team, and formed a strong bond with Buck. With Buck struggling greatly following this move, actor Ryan Guzman has shared insights into how their friendship will evolve now that they are apart in different states.
In the midseason finale, it was revealed that Eddie intended to relocate to Texas in order to be near his son Christopher. In Season 7’s finale, Christopher had moved to Texas to live with his grandparents after discovering his father with a woman who resembled his deceased mother. Now, following Eddie’s official move at the end of Season 8, Episode 10 titled “Voices,” Guzman informed TheWrap that there remains some unresolved tension between Eddie and Buck, as Buck has assumed control over Eddie’s lease.
On Buck’s part, there remains a certain degree of apprehension and disquiet, which I suspect will impact the forthcoming episodes. For a while, Buck will settle into Eddie’s home, eventually making it feel like his own space.
Since Buck learned about Eddie relocating, he didn’t handle it gracefully. Not only did he undermine viewings of Eddie’s house, but he also accidentally revealed Eddie’s move at the firehouse before Eddie could announce it himself. Though Buck eventually accepted the situation, it was evident that he wasn’t thrilled about his best friend departing. Moreover, fans have been hoping for “Buddie” to become a thing, which certainly didn’t make things easier for him.
Even though Buck and Eddie won’t reside in the same state, it doesn’t automatically imply their friendship has vanished. They’ve navigated through periods when Eddie wasn’t with the 118 before, and they have shown resilience. Overcoming distance will be another challenge, but I am excited to witness how they manage this long-distance relationship, especially during their FaceTime conversations. Guzman mentioned that they will continue to rely on each other in this new phase.
They are close companions, similar to the friends I communicate with daily, if not every alternate day. However, their connection is constant. Prepare for frequent interactions between Buck and Eddie, as they often serve as confidants for each other.
It’s intriguing to observe how these two individuals navigate through this significant transition. Given the circumstances, it won’t be a walk in the park, particularly for Buck, who is struggling with his recent breakup with Tommy and the harrowing experience of Maddie being kidnapped and near-death yet again. With Eddie moving as just another challenge on his already tumultuous plate, it seems like more trouble ahead. However, it’s suggested that Eddie won’t be away from the 118 for a long period, according to Guzman: “Eddie won’t be gone from the 118 for too much time.
For a short while, we’re headed to Texas. Our main objective is to return Eddie to the 118, but we’ll take things as they come.
Eddie has left the firehouse before, only to return quickly. Moving to Texas might seem like a significant change from being a Dispatcher in Los Angeles, but it shows that he can’t keep himself away from the fire station for too long. With several episodes remaining in Season 8, the show continues to surprise us with unexpected twists and turns. Tune in on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC or stream the next day with a Hulu subscription to find out what happens next.
