As an analyst with extensive experience in the blockchain industry, I find the recent revelation of the Telegram Open Network (TON) phishing scam deeply concerning. The deceptive scheme that lures users into receiving seemingly discounted USDT tokens by exploiting misleading message comments within the TON blockchain is a sophisticated form of fraud that can easily catch unsuspecting users off guard.
The founder of Slow Mist has disclosed a troubling new phishing scam that takes advantage of the Telegram Open Network (TON) transfer system. In this fraudulent scheme, users are enticed into accepting supposedly discounted USDT tokens through misleading comments on messages within the TON blockchain.
Unsuspecting users can be lured into believing they have received a significant amount of money, 5,000 USDT, through phrases like “received a sum of 5,000 USDT.” However, this is just an illusion as the true nature of the situation may not be obvious, and there could be a hidden trap involved.
As a researcher investigating this issue, I’ve come across an intriguing observation regarding the TON fishing scam. This technique lures users into receiving supposedly cheap USDT through notifications like “Received +5,000 USDT.” However, contrary to users’ expectations, they haven’t received any actual funds. Instead, this is merely a message from the TON comment feature, designed to mimic a transaction confirmation. The deception lies in the fact that users are tricked into believing they have received a substantial amount of USDT, when in reality, nothing has been transferred to their wallets. šā Cos(ä½å¼¦)š¶āš«ļø (@evilcos) May 10, 2024
As a crypto investor, I’m particularly drawn to the TON blockchain due to its unique features of being asynchronous and supporting smart contracts. This means that data can be seamlessly transmitted among its users directly on the blockchain, providing an efficient and reliable method for exchanging information.
Despite the significant increase in TON users due to the rising popularity of blockchain technology, this growth has unfortunately brought about an uptick in deceitful activities such as phishing scams targeting TON users.
As a significant part of the Web3 world, TON aims to reshape decentralized adventures beyond the realm of DeFi, dApps, and DAOs. With developers working together to serve Telegram’s massive user community of over 700 million, the TON Foundation plays a pivotal role in fostering this cutting-edge environment.
