As a researcher with a background in technology and law enforcement, I strongly believe that this training is a significant step forward for Nigerian Interpol in their efforts to combat cybercrime. With the increasing use of virtual currencies like Bitcoin and stablecoins in illegal activities, it’s crucial that law enforcement agencies have the necessary skills and knowledge to investigate these cases effectively.
Yesterday, Interpol-trained Nigerian law enforcement officers received instruction on handling virtual currency-related crimes, including Bitcoin and stablecoins.
A collaborative effort between A&D Forensics and the Africa Stablecoin Consortium orchestrated the extensive program. The event unfolded in Abuja, Nigeria’s esteemed capital city.
The Africa Stablecoin Consortium and A&D Forensics were asked to educate 20 high-ranking Interpol Nigeria officials on essential skills related to managing stablecoins.

Interpol police were trained on utilizing blockchain technology to trace and apprehend cybercriminals who employ cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and stablecoins for illicit activities. The digital era has seen a shift in criminal activities, with virtual currencies becoming the preferred method of transaction for cybercrimes.
When foreign authorities submit inquiries about cyber crimes to the Nigerian chapter of Interpol, they often involve the use of virtual currencies, such as stablecoins, as part of the criminal activity. To effectively investigate and respond to these cases, our officers require enhanced expertise. This training aims to equip them with the necessary skills to successfully probe cyber crimes that revolve around virtual currencies, positioning Nigerian Interpol as a key player in combating this emerging form of criminal activity.
As a researcher studying the issue of cybercrime in Nigeria, I cannot overstate the significance of the recent training programs aimed at bridging the substantial gap between the evolving nature of modern cybercrimes and the current capabilities of Nigerian law enforcement agencies.
Aware of the need for law enforcement to keep pace with evolving cyber crimes, forward-thinking A&D Forensics stepped in to offer assistance.
As the number of Nigerians adopting digital currency exchanges grows, it becomes increasingly important for Nigerian Interpol to acquire specialized knowledge. This training equips them with essential skills to effectively combat cybercrimes involving virtual assets.
