Alec Baldwin Speaks Out After His Rust Manslaughter Case Is Dismissed

As a gamer and someone who follows entertainment news, I’m relieved that the case against Alec Baldwin has been dismissed with prejudice. The handling of evidence by the prosecutors raised serious concerns about fairness and due process. It’s important to remember that everyone involved in this tragic incident deserves compassion and understanding.

After cinematographer Halyna Hutchins tragically passed away due to an unintended discharge of a prop gun on the “Rust” set in October 2021, Alec Baldwin, the film’s star and producer, has faced a string of charges and court hearings to determine potential legal consequences for the incident. On Friday, Baldwin was seen weeping and embracing his wife following New Mexico Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s dismissal of the involuntary manslaughter case against him. The very next day, Baldwin made a statement in response to this decision.

Alec Baldwin Shares Message After Rust Case Dismissal

In a recent ruling, Judge Sommer decided to throw out Baldwin’s case due to misconduct from both the law enforcement and prosecution teams. They failed to share crucial evidence with Baldwin’s defense team prior to the 2021 Rust tragedy, which ultimately resulted in Hutchins’ untimely demise. Baldwin expressed his reaction on Instagram:

As a gamer, I’m humbled and grateful beyond words for the outpouring of support I’ve received. Unfortunately, I can’t express my gratitude to each one of you right now. Rest assured, every act of kindness towards my family is deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: In his July 12 ruling, Sommer revealed that discovering certain evidence late on had significantly influenced the fairness of the proceedings for me. This evidence was ammo brought to the sheriff’s office back in March by a guy who believed it could be linked to the events at the set of Rust.

Baldwin’s legal team argued that the prosecution had concealed crucial information and requested the case be dropped, which was granted by the court. Summarizing, the state bears significant responsibility for not disclosing this discovery to the defense, leading to the call for a dismissal with finality.

What Does The Dismissal Mean For Alec Baldwin?

A “dismissal with prejudice” signifies that the prosecutors are permanently barred from bringing the same case back before the same court. Kari Morrissey, one of the prosecutors, expressed her acceptance of the ruling, yet asserted there is no proof connecting Baldwin’s ammunition to the fatal incident involving Halyna Hutchins. This decision spared Baldwin from potential 18-month imprisonment, as he had been indicted on involuntary manslaughter charges by the New Mexico grand jury in January.

As a passionate fan of Rust, I was disappointed to learn that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer under my admiration, was sentenced to 18 months in prison back in April 2024. This came after she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March. Sommer, the judge presiding over the case, expressed that it was Hannah who “transformed a harmless prop into a deadly weapon” all on her own.

I, Baldwin, won’t face involuntary manslaughter charges, but the producers of Rust and I are still grappling with civil lawsuits from some of Hutchins’ family members and crew. However, Hutchins’ widower already resolved his lawsuit against me years ago.

I, Alec Baldwin, am currently navigating through the legal complexities of the “Rust” situation. However, as we prepare for that, my family and I are excited to invite you into our world with the upcoming TLC reality series, “The Baldwins,” set to air in 2025. Come join us on this journey and get a closer look at our daily lives!
