As a gamer and someone who follows Hollywood news, I’m really excited to see Charlize Theron‘s reaction to “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” I’ve always been a fan of her work in the Mad Max franchise, and it’s fascinating to hear about her connection to Anya Taylor-Joy’s portrayal of a younger Furiosa. I can only imagine how cool it must be for Theron to see her character’s backstory come to life on the big screen.
On the weekend, I, Charlize Theron, played host to my fourth annual block party for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. During the event, I couldn’t help but express my thoughts on the latest addition to the Mad Max universe – “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.”
In late May, the film “Furiosa” was unveiled as a prequel to the 2015 blockbuster “Mad Max: Fury Road.” It featured Anya Taylor-Joy brilliantly depicting the backstory of Imperator Furiosa, a warrior character previously brought to life by Charlize Theron in “Fury Road.”
Theron spoke with The Hollywood Reporter after watching the new film, expressing her admiration by saying, “It’s incredible, truly a stunning production.” When questioned about any communication with Taylor-Joy during production or post-release, Theron shared, “No, we’ve been trying to arrange a meeting. It’s been quite the comedic situation. We keep crossing paths but never have enough time for an in-depth conversation. Life keeps getting in the way, but we’ll connect when it feels right.”
As a passionate gamer with a deep connection to my roots, I’ve dedicated my time and energy to CTAOP, the organization I founded back in 2007. Born and raised in South Africa, I understand the unique challenges young people face there, and that’s why CTAOP’s mission is close to my heart. Since then, we’ve touched the lives of over 4 million young South Africans through our initiatives. Our programs tackle critical issues like HIV/AIDS prevention, sexual and reproductive health education, access to quality education, and addressing the devastating impact of gender-based violence in their communities.
Reflecting on the past 17 years and her current perspective, Theron admitted, “I would have benefited from being more patient about the complexities of addressing these issues. The challenges we faced were immense and not easily resolved. Our initial approach was focused on HIV and AIDS, but over time, I’ve come to appreciate that a comprehensive understanding of various factors is crucial when discussing youth matters.”
As a huge fan of community events, I can’t help but get excited about Saturday’s block party held on the Universal Studios backlot! This amazing occasion not only showcases the fantastic work of a worthy organization but also serves as a celebration for the release of an exciting new Universal film. And guess what? This year, the spotlight was on “Twisters”! How cool is that? I was fortunate enough to meet the talented director Lee Isaac Chung and stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Brandon Perea in person. What a memorable experience it was!
“During the ceremony, I acknowledged the efforts of the Twisters team for joining us here today. I understand that you’ve just completed a grueling press tour week – think of it as a marathon through a harsh desert. I’ve been in your shoes before, and trust me, it’s an endurance test. So, I wanted to express my gratitude for your presence tonight. It takes a lot to be here, but I promise you, it will be worth it.”
Chung, taking the microphone, expressed, “I’m deeply moved by your kind words. Honestly, our team is thrilled to be part of CTAOP and its noble cause. Films aim to bring joy and positivity to audiences, a belief we strongly hold. We aspire to contribute to this mission with our film, aiming to throw a summertime bash for all. It’s only fitting that we join in the festivities here.”
Lainey Wilson and Tanner Adell, two artists with tunes featured in the film, graced the stage at the event. The backlot was adorned with numerous Twister-themed elements, such as a wind machine that Powell and Edgar-Jones experimented with together, and a mechanical bull. The CTAOP Block Party received support from Dior, CAA, Breitling, Universal Pictures, and Solyco Capital.
As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: “Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones joined the fun at the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project Block Party. They hopped into the Twister wind machine, feeling the thrill as the cool breeze swept us off our feet.”
