As a die-hard fan of John Carney’s films, I am beyond thrilled that his latest project, “Power Ballad,” has found its way to Lionsgate for distribution in North America, the UK, and Ireland. With an enviable track record of creating unique and captivating movies, Carney never fails to deliver a visual and emotional feast for audiences.
John Carney’s musical comedy “Power Ballad,” starring Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd, has been acquired by Lionsgate for distribution in North America, the UK, and Ireland.
In Dublin, a new project unfolds where Rudd, once a popular wedding singer, meets struggling pop star Jonas. They collaborate on writing a song, resulting in humorous outcomes.
“Adam Fogelson, head of Lionsgate’s Film Division, expressed his excitement in a statement regarding the acquisition. He has long admired John’s films and was eagerly anticipating this specific project. The collaboration of John’s exceptional artistic abilities and a popular theme, as well as an impressive ensemble cast, made him thrilled to be involved.”
I’m thrilled to be a fan and share that Anthony Bregman’s production company is teaming up with 30WEST for this upcoming project. Together, they’re financing the film, while Screen Ireland lends their support through executive production.
Together with Carney and Bregman, Peter Cron from Likely Story will collaborate with Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan of Treasure Entertainment for the production of their upcoming film. Treasure Entertainment previously worked with Carney on his last project, “Flora and Son,” which was acquired by Apple following its debut at Sundance.
“Carney expressed great joy that this movie, which held a special place in her heart for a long time, now has a permanent spot,” stated Carney, who collaborated on the screenplay with Peter McDonald.
The distribution deal was done by Charlotte Koh and Lauren Bixby for Lionsgate. 30WEST, WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group represented the domestic sales on the title, with WME Independent handling the international rights.
Rudd is represented by three agencies: Lighthouse Management & Media, United Talent Agency (UTA), and Jackoway Austen. Similarly, Jonas is managed by three entities: Philymack, UTA, and Carroll Guido Groffman Cohen Bar & Karalian, LLP.
